Do you remember the first time you saw your significant other and the feelings/thoughts that went rushing through your head? I have heard that you meet your soul mate once in a lifetime and you know it is them when you experience that first connection. I remember the first time I saw my wife and all I could think was this is the woman I will spend the rest of my life with. I was determined to make her my wife. I can remember the way she smelled, what she was wearing and the look on her face when we first met. She is a part of who I am, who I want to be and she inspires me to want to become more. My wife is a very special and strong woman in my life. She has always been the rational person in our relationship. We met for the first time through a mutual friend and the funny thing is the first date we had I feel asleep on her couch. I still remember how soft her skin was and how gentle she was when she ran her fingers through my hair. I could not believe she even went out with me again. With each date we had my heart grew fonder and I knew she was the one. We share a love for the classic Disney movie “Toy Story” and we have our own little nicknames for each other. I love to listen to her soft tones of her laughter especially when she does not realize I am listening. She gave me confidence to be the man I never knew I could be and she encouraged me all the way. I heart would flutter every time she smiled and/or touched me. While trying to make her laugh I did not noticed that I had fallen in love with this beautiful woman both inside and out. After about a year of dating I knew I had found my soul mate. With each moment I spent with her I tried to live like it was my last. We had decided to take our relationship to the next level and actually went from dating to a serious relationship. We were now a couple and I was the happiest man on earth. She

All her little peculiarities are displayed through the chevron cover on her wheel, the air fresheners that fill the air, the bumper stickers that cover her body, and all her other little quirks that make her special to me. When I got my first car, I was suddenly making excuses to drive anyone, at any time of day, and wherever they needed to go! The eagerness I had to drive first started when I got my license and it only got worse when I got my own car. Other memorable experiences consisted of my arrogance being torn down into a million pieces after getting into my first wreck, getting my first ticket, and getting my first flat tire. Every single one of the memories made and experiences gained from my first car were unforgettable and knowledgeable because I made memories and mistakes that I learned from and will remember…

Elie Wiesel’s text “The Perils of Indifference” and Russell Baker’s text “Happy New Year?” convey a common underlying message: succumbing to social culture for the sake of acceptance has consequences. This message is explained in each work through the usage of Wiesel and Baker’s ethos, pathos, tone, figurative language, and rhetorical questioning. These rhetorical devices are used differently in the two texts, as each writer had a different style and audience to compose for. Although each piece was written skillfully and uniquely with a common underlying message, one was more effective than the other. Elie Wiesel conveys a more effective message than Russell Baker, due to his usage of ethos and rhetorical questioning.…
