QUESTION
What are the functions of the various administrators of the hausa-fulani pre colonial administration?
Prior to European occupation and balkanization of Africa, most African tribes had well organized empires e.g. Yoruba, Benin, Hausa, Fulani etc. the pre colonial administration had institutions which performed legislative, judiciary and executive functions. The administration had well organized political systems, political organizations and strong military forces. Though, it was most characterized by fusion of powers.
The Hausa Fulani for instance; theocracy was a dominant feature. During the pre colonial era the paramount authority in the Hausa Fulani emirate was the emir. The emirate was further divided into districts with a district head called Hakimi. The Hakimi appointed subordinate heads to head the villages. The supreme law of the emirate at that time was the Islamic laws or sharia law. In the Hausa-Fulani traditional political system, you will observe that the traditional system is hierarchical in nature and structure. It is usually headed by an Emir. The structure of the Hausa-Fulani political system goes thus:
THE EMIR He was the supreme leader of the emirate. His functions include; * He served as the supreme ruler of his subjects * He appointed other senior officials such as madawaki, galadima etc * He organized his people for communal work and defense of the emirate * He enforced the sharia laws (Islamic laws) * He presided over the emir’s court as judge * He maintained law and order in the emirate * He imposed and collected rates such as kharaji (land tax), jangali(cattle tax) and tributes * He was the spiritual head of the emirate * He made laws over areas that were under his jurisdiction and influence * He

Great job once again on answering the question about how muscle action relates to the movement. I think maybe I took it to the extreme, I went on about agonist, synergist, and antagonist muscles. I wasn 't sure if I should add the levers too. It appears as though you explained every type of muscle movement and gave an example of each. I went into flexion at the elbow and discussed that the agonist is the main muscle mover, the antagonist does the opposite, and the synergist is the helper. However, if you think about it, we kind of still came up with the same answer. You discussed flexion and extension and how they are opposites. That is what I wrote except I said that the agonist, or the main muscle, is used for flexion, while the antagonist is used for extension. You noted that these were opposites and so did I.…

Religion was also very closely linked to government in the major West African cultures. The kings and chiefs usually ruled by divine law, and people thought that they were summoned by the spirits to lead. An example of this is the Oba, who ruled Benin City, and was thought of as divine by the people. Politics and religion are still mixed to this day.…

After World War II, the people of Africa fought to end the effects of European imperialism in order to achieve political independence and reclaim African culture. However, tensions caused by artificial political boundaries established by European powers exacerbated preexisting tribal and religious divisions. The newly ‘freed’ African states were unstable and struggled to deal with these conflicts, often resulting in civil wars and genocide. During this struggle, Africa received very little support to help develop African economies or governments from the very countries who caused Africa’s weak infrastructure. 19th-century European imperialism was a major factor in causing the political weakness within African states, but the fact that the solution…
