My Worst Job
MY WORST JOB

I have held a couple of jobs in my short yet young life. I have not so much as hated a one particular job but rather didn't like a certain conditions or a particular person, but at Western Inventory I recall too many things that were unpleasant, intolerable and unbearable. The first job I ever had, that I recall I hated the most was working at Western Inventory Service where I worked for roughly about three years. It isn't a classy job and it isn't the cleanest one either. There are times you get really dirty from crawling on the floors of the stores or in the storage areas and back rooms where dust just loves to live so by the time you were finished you looked like a magnet for dust bunnies. The extensive traveling, immature coworkers and the lousy malfunctioning machinery used are good enough reasons never ever to work for Western Inventory Service.

Traveling in and out of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and other neighboring states at the wee hours of the morning was mortifying. I had to be at work as early as four AM due to the extensive traveling. Even though the company provided the means for transportation I had to suffer the nonfunctioning heat or air conditioning, as well as the vulgar language of my fellow coworkers due to lousy music or broken radio. Now even if I returned back to Philadelphia around say midnight or later I was still required to be at work again in the morning around four. On certain occasions my boss or manager would feel sorry for us and give us the morning off, but we still had to work that night. Sometimes we traveled as far as North Carolina so that meant we had to stay in a hotel, the company apparently paid for rooms. Even though we were some what close to the store we still would have to report for work at four in the morning because for some reason we always ended up staying at least an hour or two away from the store. Stores like Kohl's, Superfresh, Shoprite, Dollar Tree or Dollar Express, Kay

Workers that worked for any of these companies faced many of the same hardships. These hardships included long hours of work without any breaks. These workers worked up to 16 hours a day for low wages. They were beaten if they were late or was punished by their managers. Many of the workers were children who had very little or no control. The committee report stated that requiring any workers in Britain to work on the Sabbath was wrong and shouldn’t be allowed, however it did not say anything about workers in other places.…

The worst job I’ve ever had was probably working at Petsmart, in Sand City. I have had a lot of jobs and this made me realize I don’t like working at corporations or in retail. I grew up in the country and have always had jobs doing physical labor either at my parent’s farm, or the surrounding farms. When I first started working at Petsmart I liked it. As time went on I started to see how bad it really was. The management was horrible, I was assigned for a graveyard type job, and no one did anything until the District manager was coming in that week.…

In early 20th century America, the city of Lawrence, Massachusetts was built on the textile industry. With an increasing immigrant population, and an increasing unskilled working population as a result, most found themselves working at one of the mills in Lawrence being payed meager wages that allowed them to barely survive. With poor living conditions and already small wages that did not seem to make the difficult working conditions worth it, the mill workers were a powder keg waiting to be lit. In January of 1912 a new law was enacted that limited workers’ hours per week. While the workers expected their weekly sum to remain the same despite the new decree, they received their pay with the same hourly rate as before.…

America had several problems during the urbanization of 1870 to 1920, exploitation of workers and deplorable food manufacturing conditions being a few. Due to the influx in immigrants many people needed jobs, which gave big businesses an advantage. This advantage being the exploitation of workers. Employees were paid starvation rates for long shifts of hard work. In stating this: the Triangle Shirtwaist factory, a textile making factory on an upper floor in a high building, locked its workers inside during the shift.…

My first job was horrible. I did not really know how bad those fast food jobs really were until I got my first job. I was a cook at Whataburger. Yes Whataburger in Decatur, the Texas treasure, the Alcatraz of the west, the worst place to work in America. Believe me when I say that Whataburger is the closest thing to hell a human can experience. Maybe not that far, but it is bad. The job was not that bad at first. Everyone would joke around be relaxed, and have a good time. However, Whataburger does something to you. Whataburger sucks your soul out of you in an agonizing process known as “Whataburger’ll do that to ya,” killing you slowly everyday. A variety of factors would contribute to…

I never actually attended UConn as a degree student. Although it is true that I enrolled late in the summer of 2009, it was only for the briefest amount of time. I enrolled late at UConn because unforeseen financial issues in my family made attending the other schools I was accepted into a terrible idea. However, quickly after enrolling I came to the realization that I had no concise plan of action towards a specific degree. I was enrolled in a mishmash of different classes that did not take me towards any direction. Therefore, I decided to drop the courses I was enrolled in, and instead work full time and save money to pay for college on my own. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to me, some kind of error must have occurred in this process. I thought…
