My Writing Experience Analysis
In the following essay, I will reflect on my past experiences of writing, my strengths, weaknesses, and potential goals moving forward. My writing experience has been a difficult process for me. I never enjoyed writing, never thought I was good at it, and have basically tried to avoid it at all cost. I can recall many moments in my life where I struggled with writing. As I think about my writing in high school, it is pretty depressing. I would often spend countless hours pondering on what I should write about. I have done numerous papers, ranging from summer reading essays to research papers. The process was very stressful to me. At times I would become extremely aggravated and procrastinate when I write. In certain situations, that was not the brightest idea. I lacked confidence in my early writing experience, but now I have a since of knowledge and understanding when I write. The biggest …show more content…
I want to be able to get my readers and audience attention quickly. Another strength of mine is that I am good at writing about personal experiences, and stories. Whenever I am writing I always have a story in mind. Writing about stories, personal events, and everyday life comes easy to me because, I am writing about what I know, and it is continuously happening around me. Experiencing something new each day is a big help when writing about personal experiences and stories. That being said, I would say that my biggest weakness as a writer, is punctuation errors. I often write, type and think too fast to the point where I do not catch my mistakes. I would rather finish my writing, and have someone else worry about the correct punctuation. Run on sentences is also a weakness in my writing. Thinking to fast causes these mistakes. When I am in the flow of writing, I focus more on what I say, then anything

When I look at myself as a writer, I see that I have my own strengths can also be weaknesses. One of my strengths I feel that I have as a writer is that I am very critical of my work. I review multiple copies of my writing. This tends to help when I am critiquing the overall voice and direction of my paper. A weakness of mine that is worth when it comes to my writing is the fact that I do not always understand or accept what others say about my writing. What I mean…

Throughout my time is College Composition I, I learned and developed numerous skills that I will carry with me to college and beyond. While writing the five assigned essays, I was able to identify my strengths and weaknesses. I believe a strength of mine was my ability to add in personal stories into my essays. For example, in my definition essay, I included my fear of disappointment and how I work to overcome this particular fear. On the other hand, one weakness that I struggled with was style. While writing my essays, I would sometimes use wordy and unclear sentences structures. Often times I would focus solely on improving my diction while writing my papers.…

When it comes to writing, I have several weaknesses and little strength. Writer’s block is definitely a big weakness for me since it takes about thirty minutes for me to get a good flow going. I could also use some help when it comes to the organization and overall flow of my papers. I also tend to write as if I’m talking; that’s definitely something that I want to change. Lastly I would really like to learn how to correctly cite sources for research papers. As for my strengths, I like to believe that I’m very good at grammar and proofreading.…

Over the course of the past three months, I have had the distinct pleasure of testing my writing capabilities through the Introduction to College Writing course. I have always had a passion for writing in all forms, but in previous years, the course work in grade-level English classes have been unchallenging of my writing ability. I have been heavily involved in Bonneville High School’s newspaper through journalism since my freshman year. This allowed me to strengthen my writing capability as I was drafting throughout the entire school year. I have never truly had to apply myself until I enrolled in English 101. Since the beginning of the class, I have faced various hardships while writing essays in unfamiliar styles, such as drafting a response to a scholarly article and synthesizing opposing perspectives. I have learned that I am more than capable in writing in different styles and that all of my work will be quality content regardless of the topic. I overcame the obstacles that have challenged me, and my essays exhibit that I am fully prepared to continue my work in English 102.…

Writing in journals for class or writing stories for entertainment proved to be great fun. The writing level of elementary and middle school was easy to learn and work with. Arriving in high school, I felt confident in my writing skills. High school level writing proved to be more challenging. After English I, I felt unprepared for the rest of my high school writing experience. I grew to become uninterested in writing for the next two years. I procrastinated finishing any writing assignment I was given. Though I received decent grades on my assignments, I could have received better grades had I not procrastinated writing my assignments. My attitude toward writing has changed from disinterested to excited with my Composition I and II classes. I have learned much in the first semester of this course and I have grown to enjoy writing again because of this…

Unfortunately, weaknesses are a challenge I do not cope with very well, especially in a scholastic setting. I was unaware of my writing weakness until English II displayed it in black and white. Furthermore, a considerable obstacle I found tough to overcome was confidence. Before turning in a test, a paper, or a project, I often underestimate myself in performing the task set before me. However, the results I receive constantly prove that I am capable of quality work. When my instructor assigned the first paper, I immediately began to focus all my efforts toward the assignment. After completing and submitting the paper, I patiently waited for the results. Not only did I earn a perfect score, I also received comments from my instructor stating how she admired…

Throughout this course, I have learned many things about myself as a writer. The most interesting thing that I learned about myself is that I like writing straight to the point. If a question is present, I like to answer it with little details as possible. I like to include all the important information and continue on with the essay. In the future, I can learn to be more detailed with my work which will have a more effective communication with readers. As for difficulty, I have always had trouble with creating cohesive papers. I tend to write whatever is on my mind when writing my essays, and as I write, sometimes my thoughts can be unorganized. I have learned that after writing my essays, I will go back and switch around my work to organize my thoughts more efficiently. I enjoy writing straight to the…

In the case of the writing environment, I prefer simply any place I am not easily distracted. I am very easily side-tracked when writing, well really anything in my life. Personally, I have A.D.H.D. but was not diagnosed until reaching college; so I have had to adapt over the years without any medicine or assistance over the years. I feel as though this has more of helped me, rather than hindered me in my writing. I digress… My writing environment could really be anywhere as long as it is not high energy traffic or nobody is there to distract me. For instance, I actually enjoy writing at places like Starbucks (cliché I know), but if it is during peak time I will get no progress done on any project. The other key trait required in my working…

I have more weaknesses than strengths as a writer. I am not the best writer, I have always had struggle in English class. My personal strengths as a write are being able to understand the concept and being able to find evidence to support my claim/thesis. My personal weaknesses as a writer are editing and grammar. Occasionally, I use the wrong past tense and need improvement on sentence and paragraph structure. I tend to repeat myself a lot. It takes a lot of time and practice to improve writing skills and develop thoughts. I am currently in the period where my writing skills are developing. For me writing means practice, practice, and more practice; just how I had mentioned in my First-Week Essay. I have to take baby steps while writing because it is too hard for me to try and perfect all areas of writing at one time. At school students are not taught a whole months worth of information in a couple days because then they would be missing all the little pieces needed to complete the big puzzle. It is the same with my writing, right now I am slowly putting together the little pieces to make them bigger and complete. This essay is a reflection on my previous essays from this…

    Strengths in Writing

My strengths in writing are being able to pick my own topic to write about. When I have prior knowledge of a topic, writing becomes easier for me. When I know what I’m talking about and am interested in what I’m talking about, I tend to write more. Writing poems is a good example. When writing poems, everything just flows together for me. They don’t have to rhyme, or even make sense for that matter. Poems could also be metaphors. They are your own experiences, ideas, or emotions characterized by the use of language chosen for its sound and suggestive power and also by the use of literary techniques. My vocabulary is moderate I would say. I keep a dictionary close by when I’m writing! When I hear new words when talking with friends and interaction with customers at work, I repeat the word and its definition so I will remember it. When I’m writing, I usually misspell the “commonly misspelled words”. Isn’t it ironic?! I use the wonderful method they taught us in elementary school, sound out the word. But when it comes to long words with lots of confusing vowels that don’t belong there, I resort to my dictionary. A dictionary can’t help me out with the organization of ideas though so I organize my ideas by grouping them together into similar topics and order of importance. Grammar is most likely my strongest weakness. I never know when to change topics or how to begin or end the paper. I don’t always use proper punctuation. All I can say is thank god for spell check and grammar check! Speaking in public is nerve racking for me. I think that in order to confidently give a speech you need to be confident with yourself. If I’m not entirely confident with myself, I’m going to wonder things such as “what are they thinking of what I’m saying? Do they agree or disagree? Do they understand where I’m coming from?” Because I am aware of my weakness, they are going to stand out more in my mind during public speaking. But we will leave my self confidence for another…
