My Writing Journey
Writing Through the Years
The experiences I have had with writing began in the early stages of my life and has impacted the way I feel about my performance in this subject. While some people may have had positive memories from when they learned how to write, others may not have. I believe that my journey has been a combination of both.
In my own experience, I used to struggle keeping up with the level of reading and writing I was supposed to be on. During first grade, I spent most of my time separated from the academic class, in the lower level reading room. I recall the embarrassment that I associated with going to the other room. While in that room, I concluded that if I practiced reading and writing enough, I would become proficient in the

Unlike in my Academic English Literature class, this course taught me how to write research, argumentative, literature reviews, and persuasive papers. It also taught various techniques to support my views. Although this class also involved descriptive rubrics, I was still able to learn effective ways of expressing my thoughts and voicing myself. My teacher always said, “don’t write a paper that you didn’t spend time thinking about”. She said this to ensure that her students would know what they were talking about and how they felt about it before they wrote it. Whenever my teacher would say this, I was encouraged to respond to the prompt with a well-constructed response. For example, one assignment asked us to write a paper that explained the how the symbolism in “Lord of the Flies” had an effect on the theme of the novel. Before we had the class discussion on the paper, I was extremely nervous to write the paper. I did not enjoy the novel and I felt that the prompt would limit me from writing my thoughts. The class discussion made me realize that it was alright not to agree with everyone else. We were told that we still had to write about what was relevant to the prompt, but the teacher also explained techniques that would allow us to include our own thoughts as well. When the discussion was over, our teacher said her famous line again and I was able to walk away feeling ready to respond to the prompt. This course taught me how to be confident completing writing assignments while using my own

When I first was assigned to write a paper on one of my previous papers that I wrote in high school using rhetorical situations I was very excited. This was because I knew exactly what paper I wanted to write about; the paper that I enjoyed the most, which was my short story called speech to Roseanne. I wrote it in high school for my teacher Ms. Drysdale’s class. I first began incubating the first day thinking and planning in my head exactly what I wanted to say in this paper. I knew I had to focus on rhetorical situation from my paper which included exigence, negative and positive constraints, and my audience as well. After incubating I began writing my rough draft, making sure that I answered all the key information. My rough draft was a…

My creativity is like a roller coaster. At the beginning of my life I was riding the roller coaster of my creativity up a very high hill. This was the time when I was just starting to figure out how everything worked and what creativity ment. I found I could express myself through a crayon and piece of paper. I was drawing everything that made me happy. My family was what I mostly drew at this point, because my happiness revolved around them. As I got further up the hill the track kept getting steeper, because I was learning about my creativity very fast. I even started drawing what made me sad, like my best friends getting mad at me or my dog passing away. I could tell my mom how I felt without saying…

As Fin walked along the street the leaves of the oak trees shone like patches of blue velvet, but when he stopped still nothing shimmered. The waves refused to move. The glow of the city still seeped into the morning sky, forever. He felt he must be dreaming, and yet he was sure he wasn't dreaming because everything felt so real. Surely his brain was not powerful enough to create such a masterful illusion. Or was it? He felt his head imploding just trying to figure it…

I am writing this quick letter to introduce myself and tell you a bit about my accomplishments and aspirations as a writer. I won't say that writing is in my blood or my genes or anything like that, but I will say that I do have an insatiable urge to write. I cannot say, but I definitely feel that writing is a passion of mine that I greatly enjoy. It is an urge that can only be satisfied and, even then, only temporarily, by stringing words together into a narrative. Ultimately, I greatly enjoy writing, although I do not consider myself to be stellar at it; I would call it a passion more than anything else.…

When asked in class every year which subject I admired the most, my answer was always “none”. Although the grades in my core curriculum classes were always excellent, I never found interest in the basic subjects. Math was a bunch of numbers with letters, science just reviewed our bodies and the how the world was believed to be through one scientist theories and history repeated itself, constantly. As a freshman, I contemplated tremendously over what major and career I would pursue for the rest of my life. I never knew there were more subjects than just science, English, math and history until the day my mother introduced me to unraveling my creativity in the summer.…

I remember, when I was younger, that I wasn't fond with the idea of writing. I remember after writing out paragraphs upon paragraphs my hands always hurting and my brain exhausted from all the mental thinking and processing of writing. However, I would have this feeling; this sensation when I would write with thought, with passion and I carved it. However, it was hard to find a place that was felt the same kind of passion that I felt for writing and could help hone my writing. Then, I found out about BISFA that could help me with my writing, but my English teacher, who was supportive in my decision, told me a question all writers should always themselves, Why do you write? I figured that I would have an answer, but it I didn't. However, it…

I used to believe I was a good writer. Throughout my elementary school education, creative writing dominated curriculum which allowed my extremely creative mindset to thrive. In middle school, I developed an elitist mentality about my writing ability. Believing that I reached my academic peak, I felt no need to sharpen my writing skills, causing me to become close minded to critique or other writing styles. Upon entering high school, I still clung to the idea that I was the best, but after my first week of class, I realized how weak my writing skills were in contrast to those of other students. Now, I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses as a writer, and hope to have come far from my middle school self.…

The Writing Journey Revision is the act of revising, it is to correct, edit and redraft. When I begin to revise a paper, first I reread what I wrote then afterwards, I read it aloud, the human mind won’t necessarily point out the mistakes because the brain will correct what you read and implement it to what needs to be there. Depending on the topic or the importance of the paper, I’ll ask around for help, or sometimes I would ask a friend to edit my paper to point out my mistakes and learn from them. Ever since 8th grade I pushed myself to convert to an improved writer through the art of literature.…
