Organizational Behavior Based on Personality Types

Abstract
Personality test are used to measure personality characteristic and also used to diagnose personality disorders within people. This paper will discuss the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), my very own four-letter personality type, which includes, introversion, intuition, feeling, and judging, my two-letter temperament, which is, NF, how my personality trait coincides with organizational behavior and how my personality type strengthens and weakens me as an employee and co-worker.

Although I may tend to think about several things at once, my friends and colleagues don’t believe that I am absentminded (Kroeger, Thuesen, & Rutledge, 2002). When I think about multiple things at one time, it gives me an idea on what I need to focus on first, what is the most important of all the ideas in my mind. I have always been a person to focus on my future, this personal trait emboldens me guide my attention towards where I would like to be in the company five years from now, even though I am just an intern. There have been numerous occasions where I had to decide whether to go with my instinct or follow everyone else and what he or she is doing. I never tend to follows others, and I only lead when it is necessary, leaving me to ignore everybody else’s opinions. In my situation, this could be an advantage and a disadvantage. It is an advantage because while everyone is focused on one thing I am given the ability to prove him or her wrong. This could also take a wrong turn because my instinct could have been a bad idea in the first place.     The historical backdrop of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) began with Carl Jung, the organiser of analytical psychology. Jung believed that individuals are either stimulated by the outer world (Extraversion) or their own inner world (Introversion). In the same way Jung observed individuals took in data (Perceiving) or organise data and frame a conclusion (Judging). Additionally Jung noted that individuals mostly demonstrate a dominant part. In this way, in 1921, Jung distributed Psychological Types in which he displayed the thought of Jungian models (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Manual, 2012). Isabel Myers-Briggs developed the MBTI in the 1920s based on Jung’s theoretical constructs with an additional two dimensions of styles of living, consisting of a fourth scale that measures perceiving and judging (Myers, McCaully, Quenck, & Hammer, 2003; Mullins, 2005; Schreuder & Coetzee, 2011).
