Throughout the twelve lessons of SOWK 2201, there were three crucial aspects of working with children and youth that were new to me. Beginning from lesson 5 (relationships), I learnt how to use the Rogerian method, which was created by Carl Rogers. I learnt that the Rogerian model can be applied on all three levels: child-family, child-worker, and child-community. The model requires us to respect the child, be honest in word and action, and empathize with the child’s narrative. Another aspects that was new to me came from lesson 7, targeting the AHA method. Before this course began I was not informed of the AHA method. Nevertheless, I am now aware that the AHA method was used in our everyday lives without us knowing it. It reminds us to be…

The learning style profiler allows individual’s to study the intrapersonal and interpersonal effectiveness; this report aims to evaluate my personal strengths and weaknesses in these areas. This subject has covered many important skills, which are essential for future organization effectiveness, such as reflective practice, intercultural sensitivity, social awareness and writing skills. The portfolio has provided great opportunity to study individual’s strengths as well as weaknesses. There are two main parts in the portfolio analyses, which are intrapersonal section that reflects my learning style, emotional intelligence; and international personality item pool. I have found the major area to improve to the intrapersonal effectiveness part, which is the ‘deep learning skill’. However, I have included a strategy to improve my skill in this area. The second part of the portfolio deals with the interpersonal effectiveness, and my focus has been my approach to conflict, I have put in the ways that are more effective for conflict resolution.…

    APS Program Reflection

I am proud to be to selected for consideration for the APS program at Argonne in association with our high school. The APS at the Argonne National Laboratory is one of the most diverse and industrious scientific instruments available for civilian use, ranging from simple industrial analysis of synthetic to organic compounds, to a general ecological and biological application use, mapping out protein structures and hormone receptors. Such a diverse scientific instrument in my opinion is utterly useless unless a diverse group of people, with different backgrounds and perspective are allowed input into what is tested and how it is tested. Once again, I am honored for my recognition of scientific ability which allowed me to be selected for consideration in the first place, and I would like to give an example of how my perspective can be used to further research at this program. For…

Pre-O helped me transition because it helped me make friends before classes started. While everyone else were attempting to make new friends the students of Pre-O already formed bonds and found friends. It also helped me become familiar with the campus. The rest of the incoming freshmen were struggling during orientation because they didn't have the advantage that we did. They asked us all types of questions such as 'Where is Modlin?', 'What is the quickest way to get back to the dorms?', and so on. All in all, it was just a nice feeling to be able to knowledgeable and not have to struggle with new surroundings.…

    WRI-101 Reflection

I could start this off with a sappy story talking about how I endlessly nitpicked my essays and challenged myself to improve upon my writing ability this semester, but I would be lying. The truth is that often the final product of my works in WRI-101 was mindless binge watching of cat videos, procrastination, and last minute inspiration. No essay one writes will be perfect, and you cannot force upon perfection. To fulfill thought out ideas that satisfy the requirements of the assignments of WRI-101, you need a foundation to build upon. Thus, go out and spark your creativity. If that means taking a stroll through the commons or indulging your ears with six straight hours of Freddie Mercury’s god-like voice, then so be it. Between you and I, embrace procrastination, and once an idea miraculously pops into your head, open the…

Last year I wrote a mid-term reflection for my ENC1101 class, and it was a summary of how I didn’t take writing serious. However, I had improved as the semester progressed. In ENC1102 I wrote my first essay, and I received my first C on a paper, and it bothers me. I know I could’ve done way better. All the grammatical errors I exhibiting weren’t intentional, and it could be solved through the reading of my paper out loud. My issues within my paper in regards to my arguments are not a great issue, but I do not incorporate enough evidence to support my claims, hence making my argument diminish in strength. With my second paper, I tried to incorporate more quotes and evidence into paper. I also have tried to include information that was not discussed…
