Mystery Mixture
If only they knew what was in the mystery mixture. After a long time of experimenting, the 8th grade scientist came to a decision on how they are going to figure what is in the mystery mixture. Once they started, they all looked at its physical properties. Then the scientists thought about the chemical reactions, and how that will help the claim the scientists had. More than half of the scientists thought it was baking soda and citric acid.
When combining baking soda and citric acid together, the physical properties are very similar. Mystery mixture has a variety of sizes from the crystals with powder over it. Also from the powdery substance in it. There is no exact size for the mystery mixture. The claim the scientists have is similar to the mystery mixture. It is similar to the claim because the scientists found that there is an exact size, but there also isn’t. This is because they found an estimate to what the crystals size are. It is close to 2 millimeters. They also found out the estimate of the powdery stuff to. Which is very close to ¼ of a millimeter, sometimes even smaller. When testing, the scientists claim fizzed. The fizzing was close to the exact same time as the mystery mixture. Their claims timing of fizzing was 1 minute 20 seconds. The mystery mixtures time was 1 minute and 23 seconds. Another importance of the data would be, if the time took any longer it wouldn’t be in/like the mystery mixture, because no other combination came close to this time. Also the scientists found out is, that the claim has residue on the bottom. It has millimeter specs of white and goes away on the bottom, but specs if it is still there. The mystery mixture has residue on the bottom almost exactly like the claim. This would be very important because all the other claims the scientists had, had more residue or none at
