Since the outset of time people always wanted to know who or what made the land, animals, and man. This reason alone is why Myths from various ethnicities around the globe concentrate on similar or universal themes. People needed to cook up tales for their understanding and opinions. Myths allow people to make sense of things that are not normal or out of the ordinary. I consider that myths from different civilizations around the world address similar and universal themes because in the end all cultures and people are attempting to explain the same matter. Many cultures believe in higher powers, which how the word religion comes into play.
Mythology and religious opinions differ, but they have similar concepts. “They both believe in systems of concepts that are of high regard to a certain community, making statements concerning the supernatural or sacred. More often than not, mythology considers one component or aspect of religion. Faith is the broader term: besides mythological aspects, it includes aspects of ritual, morality, theology, and miracles.” (Alcott, 2010) Myth's help us to understand certain wisdoms in a way that our brains can't quite wrap around, while religion drives off of pure faith.
