Myths in Rennaisance

Was the Renaissance Reality or Myth? Renaissance is the period in history defined with the sudden change of history from medieval time to modernity. The renaissance is estimated to have occurred between 14th and 17th century. This time in history begun in Italy a place called Florence and spread to other places in Europe. The period is known as a time of drastic explosion of knowledge where the world underwent critical developmental stages. The period is known to be the link between modernity and the middle high periods. The term renaissance was defined in France by Jules Michelet in 16th century defining it as a break from middle ages to the modern human place in the world. In the 19th century, the historians from diverse backgrounds have confronted each other concerning the validity of renaissance period (Peter 1972). Major historical scholars have argued that the reality of renaissance has been clouded by dramatic contrast and metaphors which make the rebirth period a mythical phrase. Renaissance is seen to elicit unusual occurrences, which cannot be accounted for due to the short duration by which events are recorded to have occurred. Thus, the rebirth period is a myth rather than reality.

Peter burke in the article The Myth of Renaissance has disagreed with the existence of renaissance period. His arguments articulate well with the development experienced in the mediaeval world to the modern world. Peter sights that renaissance did not only occur during the period of 14th to 17th century, but the developments began back in the medieval periods (Thomas 1997). From this series of renascences, it is where the modernized western culture emerged. In support of Burke article, it is true the men who came up with renaissance held assumptions and beliefs that were similar to those used during the middle high age.
