NAFTA

To begin, workers in the US and Mexico are negatively impacted by NAFTA. Nations are still on edge of economic and social disadvantages. Of course, NAFTA is the North American Free Trade Agreement that make trade easier between Canada, The relationships of NAFTA in Mexico and the United States works by reducing and eliminating taxes on goods. Also, NAFTA benefits include providing more jobs and economic growth between the 3 countries. Furthermore, economic disadvantages that the American working class faced because of NAFTA was the destruction of jobs. Americans are making more money by selling items from foreign countries. Then bringing in products from other countries. “US trade -related job creation and destruction NAFTA trade: Net exports -879,280 billion”( US NAFTA trade, job creation, and job destruction,
1993-2002 totals for all commodities Table 1). NAFTA impacts americans economy because they can have more products and benefit americans more. However, americans are losing money. NAFTA is negatively impacting working class people in the US because the economy is sending jobs to foreign countries. “California :net exports -115,723 billion”(NAFTA job creation and destruction by state, 1993-2002 Table 2). NAFTA impacts Americans economy because if you're losing more jobs in the US then the economy is going to have many people unemployed. A social impact that Mexican working class people faced because of NAFTA is workers do not get paid enough to buy products they make.
NAFTA negatively impacted working class people because the people of NAFTA only helps the economic elite and mexico doesn't get paid the minimum wages they deserve. “Of the 300 border factories in Juarez, 80 percent are US- owned. NAFTA had a lot to do with them coming here. So we also have to take responsibility for the workers in those factories that are being killed”(To work and die in Juarez 2). NAFTA had to do with the people in Juarez and take responsibility because Mexicans workers do not want to go to work. Also, many citizens of Juarez are afraid of the many missing that shows NAFTA doesn't do anything about the crisis that their having in Mexico. NAFTA negatively impacted working class people in Mexico by having young women's working in the Maquiladoras the whole day. “How old are you...15...I work to support my family”(NAFTA video). NAFTA impacts Mexican workers because they are targeted the most. Also, there having them work long hours but still do not get paid the minimum wages and get the responsible for
it.
In conclusion, two main disadvantages the Mexicans and Americans suffer from are jobs destruction and workers are not getting paid enough so they have consequences of implementation of NAFTA disadvantages. When the desires of a few power holders outweigh the needs of the many jobs, workers in Mexico and US are getting upset because NAFTA has been taking advantage of countries that are going down or need help to raise jobs that need support. Also, many people or active members of the society can influence government to changes laws and practices by having each state doing councils, protesting, etc. So this way everyone and especially NAFTA to get the message that they should stop giving money to the elite and give moneys or a least minimum wages for the people who make the clothes and take their time. Finally, people can influence companies to engage in more socially responsible business practices by having the elite business take the money that they're being given from NAFTA to make a change and stop NAFTA from economic growth and lowering cost.
