NIEHS vs. Government Funds
Some people want to be fit and healthy their whole life, but there are some factors in the environment that could make them sick and ruin their goal. There is a company named NIEHS, or the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, that helps keep playgrounds, parks, and the environment around you clean and safe to help prevent you from getting harmful or even deadly diseases that can cause you and your family or friends harm. Currently, the NIEHS is asking for $680,000,000 and I think they should get it because it will help them get better technology that could help them find more harmful effects that the environment has on us. The NIEHS has scientists all around the world that study the health effects
One important fact that makes the NIEHS beneficial is that they are trying to give 100 million homes in developing countries, clean and efficient stoves. The article, “Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves”, stated, “Three billion people, nearly half of the people in the world, use stoves that are not efficient when they cook their daily meals… Burning wood, coal, or dung also adds to the climate change by releasing greenhouse gases”, (12). This shows that the NIEHS is trying to help clean our environment one home at a time. They are trying to find clean and efficient ways to keep people and the environment healthy. If the NIEHS was able to give everyone clean and efficient ways to cook and heat their food it would help people from getting food poisoning, tape worms, etc. The NIEHS is working to keep everyone healthy and trying to save the environment with it, but they can do many other helpful things with the government
With more scientists across the world they could find how certain diseases develop and find the cure to diseases faster. With the extra money from the government the NIEHS would be able to hire more people around the world and make the environment around us healthier. The article, “Why and How Do We Study Environmental Health”, stated “...Scientists at NIEHS and around the world have been studying the environment and everything around us in the environment”, (7). This shows that the NIEHS is always working hard with hiring scientists around the world to help keep the environment clean and our lives healthy. If they had more money they would be able to hire more scientists. With more people working they could find diseases faster and create a cure before there’s an outbreak. They could also study more of the environment and make it cleaner and healthier. If the NIEHS was able to hire thousands of more scientists it could make everyone in the world way more healthy and even make the risk of getting certain diseases go
