Then comes the conquest of Mecca and the very roots of the Islamic civilization are laid in the city state of Medina. 3. The death of Muhammad The third most major event is the death of Muhammad following his farewell speech and the election of Au Bakr as the first civil and religious ruler of Islam.

Nakhla raid
This was the first successful raid against the Meccans. Muhammad had sent Abdullah ibn Jahsh in Rajab with 12 men on a mission to wait at Nakhla between Mecca and Taif and wait there for the Quraysh and see what they were doing. Abdullah ibn Jahsh saw a chance to attack and he asked his men to join him in martyrdom to ravage the riches of the caravan. After the battle ended, Abdullah ibn Jahsh returned to Medina with the plunders and with the two captured Quraysh tribe members. Amr ibn Hadrami was killed in the battle.
2. The Battle of Badr
Fought in March, 624 CE, the battle of Badr was the first large scale battle between the musllims and the meccans. The recent raid at Nakhla had enaged the Meccans who were willing to put an end to the raids of the muslims. This saw deployments of armed individuals from both the sides, rsulting in a major battle. After the battle Muhammad started being seen as a political and military leader. The other chief benefciary of the Battle of Badr was Abu Sufyan due to the death of Amr ibn Hashim, as well as many other Quraishi nobles which gave Abu Sufyan the chance to become chief of the Quraish.
