Remember the Baby is a radio drama that is taken from The Truth, a website that have the fictional audio stories. Like this podcast, it is based on a true story performed by Ann Carr, telling us about Ann, who gets a stroke while babysitting her sister's baby. Enhanced by sound effects, the story emphasizes Ann's struggle during the moment she gets a stroke. Based on my understanding, she is able to fight back and seeks help because she hears the baby's cry. Then, the story ends with a tuneful music that evokes the value of how love can save one's life.…

We see the world through the lens of our own perspectives. Everyone including the open minded do. Our perspectives come from our personality and knowledge of something. Just how in, “ Appreciate the History of Names to Root out Stigma,”by Morgan Jerkins some people were only hired for jobs because their names sounded less black and more white. Their decisions showed that if you were black but acted white you were to most likely be hired. Racism and stereotypes is something that has been going on for a long time and it's the world's major issue today. Unfortunately many people are not aware of how much of this is still going on and it is time that people start to think about the solution to this nation wide situation.…

American cinema was changing during this time as well and reflecting the mood of the world. Among the genres undergoing transition during this time, ?the Western was perhaps the greatest barometer?the genre long seen as most uniquely American, most assuredly linked to the national character and mythology, seemed to be evolving into a new, rougher beast? (McClain, 2010, p. 52). This was no more evident than in the Sergio Leone…

Sunil’s story is defiantly about trying to belong. Sunil was called lots of things, well in fact nearly every racist name under the sun, curry-muncher, towel-head, abo, coon, boong, darkie, nig-nog and so on. Some type of assault followed this. After he would tell his mother and she would just say "Stones and sticks and such-like can only shake your skeleton. Just rise over it!" This upset him even more because it wasn’t even said right. After a while he got used to the names and dead legs. He took the verbal assault like a good sport. The only thing that would upset him now was his name because no one could pronounce it properly. So he would tell everyone that his name was Neil. But soon enough his mother found out that he changed his name at school. She wondered why he had changed it and he spat out "I hate it". She believed that Sunil is a beautiful name. This was because Sunil meant the breeze that blows on Lord Shiva's (God Of Destruction) birthday. After finding out what his name meant his opinion of the name changed. He is now proud of his name because it had meaning while other kid's names did not. In a name book for Indian children he found his name's description said dark one. A saying that has been with him forever. This connects to Identity and Belonging because he changed his name to a more Aussie name in order to belong with the Aussie kids. The name…
This story is about a hero named Sundiata who went on a heroic journey and he experienced different events throughout his life. The story tells the history of groits, the kings, their generations, customs and traditions of town called Mali. More importantly, it is about the life of Sundiata because it includes the events of his father’s marriage with Sogolon, and his youth and his exile from the Mali and the return to Mali after the death of her mother Sogolon. Each episode of the story includes an interesting theme and lesson. Such as the episode that really struck me was when the narrator mentioned that how Sogolon and her children had to live on the left over’s of the queen mother Sassouma Bredtd. Moreover, Sogolon had to hear all gossips that were spread by queen mother in the town. Sassouma’s gossips were to provoke the people in Mali against Sundiata, so he could not get the thorn and the throne will go to queen mother’s son. Thus, her gossips were that people had seen kings who had one eye, one arm and lame legs, but never seen a king with stiffed legs. All these gossips were annoying Sogolon and which leaded her to cuss her own son Sundiata. For instance, she told Sundiata that she had suffered the greatest affront of her life because of him. In addition, mother queen also planned multiple attempts to kill Sundiata, but she failed. For instance, she called nine witches to her palace and developed a plan. She sent the nine witches to provoke Sudiata and draw the anger of the nocturnal powers upon him. Overall, the narrator had described throughout the episodes that Sundiata and his mother had to go through difficult times in their life.…

After Kieran blowing Sunil’s cover name, his mother gave a a nice long lecture as to what his name really meant. I can imagine my uncle or aunty doing this in their accents, and as Sunil felt, it is not a good place to be or the postion they put you in. Curry parents are not people to mess with when your on their bad side. But it’s good to see the influence his mum’s lecture had on Sunil’s life and the courage that she put in him to be proud of his name. As we grow up, the influence our family has on our life is massive and it doesn’t surprise me how Sunil reacted. I believe it’s important that if you have a “different” name, to take…
I was supposed to be named Rachel. It was a compromise, my mother told me, from what my dad had picked: Raquel. Growing up, I had a friend named Rachel that was nothing like me: soft, composed, and the sweetest smile. As it is hebrew, the name comes from the biblical name meaning “O Beautiful One” or “female sheep”. While this is nice and all, it was much more fitting for my friend. Never could or would I pick the animal the sheep to describe myself.…

However, Gogol is not depressed or upset with this situation as the loneliness gives him time to reflect on his past helping him determine who he really is in life. He looks back on both his life and his father’s life as well tracing the events leading up to that very moment in his life. Tragically, he believes that everything in the Ganguli family’s past feels “like a string of accidents” that were “unforeseen” and “unintended” (Lahiri 286). Gogol thinks about his father’s train accident that propelled him to travel the word thus creating a new life and a new family in America. He also thinks of the lost letter from his great-grandmother containing his traditional name, which lead to the name of Gogol.…
