Napoleon Bonaparte had many different sides to him and many different faces. To some, he was an extraordinary military commander who led an army to victory. To others, he was a civil administrator, and yet others thought of him as a great man that had complicated twists in his short life. He is both a historical figure and a legend and it is sometimes difficult to separate the two. Urban dictionary defines historical figure as “Historical people, situations, or things existed in the past and are considered to be a part of history.” There is no doubt that Napoleon was a historical leader, but was he a positive or negative one?

Napoleon Bonaparte was considered by most the be the savior of the French Revolution by ending it and putting in place a government that brought equality and stability to a hopeless country.
Napoleon’s take over of power brought hope that someone smart and meaningful would control France. Napoleon united France, no longer would jobs be given to those only because of social status. The French under Napoleon would become united, strong, and most important equal. Napoleon brought stability and direction to a country without a course. His control of France would have an important impact on not only Europe, but the entire world. Till this day we look at what Napoleon did in France and governments use his process of ideas as a starting block on what decisions they should make. He has become a positive role model for democracy and
equality.
Napoleon established a civil code called the Code: Napoleon that lives on to this day across the world. It made all people equal before the law regardless of whether someone was of royal blood or a peasant. He inspired national pride by reopening the Louvre and bringing hundreds of famous paintings and other works of art. French soldiers marching and fighting across Europe, spreading the ideas of the revolution, winning great victories inspired much nationalism in France. Life under Napoleon’s regime was far better than people had under various other regimes. Life for many was still difficult in Napoleon’s regime but the one major difference was that the people could actually make something of themselves without regard to their birth certificate. In other countries across Europe, unless you were of noble blood or were impressively wealthy enough to marry into noble blood then you were sentenced to a life of meritocracy at best. Under Napoleon anyone could achieve what they wanted based on their decisions, not their bloodline. This was really the first form of equality in the world let alone Europe. If he never created this code, who knows where we would be today. We may still of been bowing down to a king and queen and born into a world already completely planned out for us because of our bloodlines.
