18. After the rule of Napoleon, Louis XVIII returned France to pre-revolutionary conditions in certain aspects of society and politics. For example, Louis brought back restrictions to religion, Protestants were tormented for their faith. Louis accepted the Code that had been developed by Napoleon but banned divorce, although it had been permitted during the revolution. Louis restored Catholic superiority, this had a trickling effect on the doings of the revolution, restricting rights and restoring inequality.…
The are two sides to every story. The French Revolution brought significant change to France during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It was a period of time that produced a remodeling of the French Government system, an Enlightened mindset, and the rise of a new prominent ruler, Napoleon Bonaparte. Emperor Napoleon, as he so deemed himself, initially took on his duties by trying to bring together what had been a much divided nation. He made concessions with both the left (the constitutionalists) and the right (the monarchists). His concessions earned him respect from many, however, as his power grew and grew, Napoleon developed a tendency to rely strongly on his military to gain power. His militaristic eagerness to monopolize Europe earned him much respect and praise from the French people, but very infrequently do we recognize those individuals that served in the military to carry through Napoleon’s aggressive orders. Those who fought for Napoleon’s success received very little in return; much to lack of motivation. Fortunately for the world, Jakob Walter’s story as a conscript for Napoleon’s Grand Army has been public for the world. His powerful accounts of the pitiful conditions that conscripts endured during their wartime travels would give many a different opinion of the “Great” Napoleon. As mentioned earlier, there are two sides to every story.…

Montana 1948 is a story told by David Hayden who is fifty-two years old but at the time of the story is 12 years old. He tells about how his life was while living in Mercer County. David experienced many troubles and hardships during the summer of 1948 such as, not wanting to live there but live in the city, not knowing who to trust and what to feel, also not being treated the way he wanted to be. David wanted to feel as though he had a voice and that someone cared about the things he had to say, but his parents never thought it was his place to know things they would talk about. In the story, he also mentions many different themes like, loyalty vs. justice, prejudice, and others but what stood out the most to me was loyalty vs. justice.…
Several historians have similar beliefs as to why the Russians managed to defeat Napoleon. However, different historians place more weight to some reasons than others. In this essay I will present the viewpoints of three different historians, Lefebvre, Thompson, and Connelly, and discuss what they argue are the chief reasons for the defeat of Napoleon. This essay will also present the viewpoints of a Napoleonic foot soldier and compare and contrast the viewpoints of the Napoleonic foot soldier to that of the historians. After examining the three different historians viewpoints and comparing them to the viewpoint of the Napoleonic foot soldier, I argue that the Russians managed to defeat Napoleon's grand army during the Russian campaign of 1812 because the Russians repeatedly retreated deeper into Russia and because of the harsh conditions of the Russian winter.…
An absolute monarch or ruler of a people can be what one considers an enlightened despot, or a ruler that makes good laws and promotes human happiness with them. It has been said about the great conqueror and emperor Napoleon Bonaparte that he is the last of the enlightened despots, but others say he is the first of the modern dictators. There is substantial evidence to argue both sides in this dispute, but it is more true to say that Napoleon was the transition between the two. Louis Bergeron, historian, argues that Napoleon was the last of the enlightened despots, while the historian Cobban argues that he was the first of modern dictators. Martyn Lyons believes that he was just the continuation of the French revolution.…
Ideals of the Enlightenment and the French Revolution were both rooted from the desire to abolish absolute authority, ensure the natural rights of men, and develop a stable government. Napoleon Bonaparte, a prominent military general and French Emperor, strived for these political ideologies, but was corrupt in his way of approaching them. He was strictly egotistical and selfish; these characteristics served only as a catalyst to his abolition. Mohandas Gandhi, a pacifistic revolutionary that led India’s emancipation, stated that “power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment”. Napoleon, however, seized control over France by ruling oppressively and ruthlessly; citizens followed him only in fear of his boundless power. Although Napoleon did help establish political and social equality in France, his uncontrollable desire for personal supremacy suppressed the ideals of the revolution and violated the basic principles of the enlightenment.…
It took the USA 4 years to win the Civil War because of the changing nature of warfare. This meant that Napoleonic decisive battle could no longer be applied and so their strategy had to change. The changing nature of warfare was the most important factor in the war going on for as long as it did, making it more significant than the poor initial US strategy, the contributions of Lee, and the strengths of the CSA at the beginning of the war.…

From the introduction before his diary it states that, “…he demonstrated a strong desire for propaganda and psychological warfare…” (117).…
Was Napoleon Bonaparte a hero or a tyrant? Did the good of his actions outweigh the bad? Napoleon Bonaparte was a French military leader who rose to power during the French Revolution. He eventually conquered most of Europe and named himself emperor. I believe that Napoleon was a tyrant for a few different reasons. These include that he was egotistical, selfish, and untruthful.…
Was Napoleon a hero? Of course, he was definitely a hero. A hero is defined as a person who is smart, caring, considerate and is admired or idealized for courage or outstanding achievements. Napoleon was a hero because he made French into a center of advanced learning, founded the first Bank of France and the Napoleonic Code. To make the French become the center of advanced learning. Napoleon built the University of France in 1808 and the Lycee Louis-le-Grand as a public secondary school in Paris. He changed the policy that everyone can go to school, which made more people educated, which made French became a civil center. In addition, he founded the Bank of France in 1800. During 1790, weakness in the economy caused a drop in foreign trade…
Five years later after the T.J incident, I decided to move to the luxurious base of Pearl Harbor in Oahu, Hawaii ("Where Is Pearl Harbor Located?") in 1938. I was living in a small apartment right outside of the base. The only reason I moved there is to pursue my dream of becoming a pilot in the Navy. I decided to sign myself up for a boot camp that was being held at the Naval Academy. I was very satisfied to see that there was not a lot of people signed up for the camp. However, I knew that I still had to be in the best shape of my life. A week passed and I was ready for the wear and tear of the boot camp. Finally, the day came to start boot camp. The first day of boot camp was way different than what I expected. Actually, it was very easy…
