One of the biggest differences was the way of life in general. The first thing I noticed was the transportation. In Boston there were public buses and trains that took you throughout the city and having a car was a privilege. In Puerto Rico, having a car is a necessity, since the public transportation was almost non-existent. It was such a dramatic change because I used to travel all the time on the bus and train without needing to depend on anyone. Now, I had to ask someone to take me places since I was too young to get my driver’s license. Second was the weather, which was much hotter and had no winter whatsoever. Hot, tropical temperatures and no snow, which was a change I liked, but had to get used to. Those were the first things I noticed but one of the biggest changes was the people, including my Family!
When I was in Boston, almost all my family I knew were from on my mother’s side. I had met one or two uncles on my father’s side but not much. When I moved to Puerto Rico I met my family from my father’s side. I had not seen a lot of these people in my life! It was kind of a scary experience. Although it took a while, I did get used to my family and it was almost like I knew them all my life. After I thought I was finally getting used to everything and everyone, I had forgotten about one thing: school.
When I first started school, the biggest change to get used to was the fact that I needed to use a uniform. In Boston, there were no uniforms and you got to wear whatever you wanted. So it was quite a bit of change to get used to
