The ‘best laid plans of mice and men' often go awry, as seen by the outcome. The feeling of heartache and devastation enveloped me as my knees dropped to the ice. I am dripping with sweat, or what could have been tears, (at that point I couldn’t tell the difference). I looked across the ice over at the other team; gloves were flying in the air as they were jumping up and down, crying of happiness. Then, I looked over at my teammates who were crying of sadness and sorrow, and I don’t blame them because I was too! But most of my teammates were seniors and this was their last year, so they wanted nothing more than to finish their year out with the champion title. As for me, I wanted to win, not only for my teammates, coaches, and parents, but for me. Although, I wanted us to be named champions, life is not always about winning, or trying to be better than the person next to you. Instead, life is about the setbacks, the disappointments, the heartaches and getting right back up. It’s the experiences of failing and how I handle coming in second determines whether I achieve real greatness, or not. All in all, we knew that we put our heart and soul into that game, and it was a life time experience that none of us will ever forget.
