Narrative Essay About Leaving Cuba
Leaving my family and leaving Cuba was one of the most difficult things that happened in my life. Since I was a baby, everyone treated me with love. I was born in Cuba, a beautiful country where I was a free kid playing around and having great times. Being born in a beautiful country made my life happier and who I'm today. Being free is living life, having fun, enjoying who you are and that's mainly one of the things I loved most. Seeing the beautiful palms, beaches, mountains, birds flying around, loving people, beautiful cultural things, changed my life completely and made me love Cuba more and more each day that pass by. From la punta de maisis to la punta de maseo, I see my country as the most beautiful country on the world. So was leaving my country and my mother and sister and all my other family behind, was it hard? Yes it was and it still is today.

Eventually the day came, I was getting ready to come to the U.S.A but I didn't wanted to leave. My plane ticket and all the other things were already paid for so there was no going back. It was so hard saying goodbye to my family as well to my country, but even if I cried, I couldn't do anything about it. Ones I was in the sky looking down to my country, crying like a little baby, I fall more in love with it, because from up top I could see my whole country. When I was

Miami, FL is a place that has to be felt rather than seen or heard—and by that I mean observed beyond all senses, with mind, body, heart, and soul. I’ve been entrenched in it my whole life, a little Cuban princesita not so different from all the rest, but it’s only as I’ve gotten older that I’ve fully felt like a part of a community, a culture. I feel it when I talk, casually, to the elderly cashier at my neighborhood grocery store, a familiar combination of Spanish, English, and what many call cubanismos, phrases with meanings that simply will not tolerate literal translations, spilling forth. I feel it while seated at a table of no fewer than four relatives on any given evening, judging the quality of a restaurant on the quality of their flan de caramelo or their café. I feel it, too, in the colorful songs of Ernesto Lecuona and the ardent verses of José Marti, but most of all in the anecdotes of my grandparents and great aunt, the nostalgia of long-settled immigrants, echoes of sorrow, shared over dominoes and rice and beans and coladas of espresso.…

It all started one afternoon in May 2000 when my father surprised us with the unexpected news that he had found a way out of that island, until that moment it was our beloved home, escape from the authoritarian regime was that many Cubans craved. I was only in my twenties, I had no desire to leave my life but at the same time craved many things that did not have, or new things I was curious to know. I suddenly entered that curiosity and I yelled to my father, dad want to go…

The Dominican Republic, known for its beautiful beaches and balmy weather, was the last place I ever imagined I would find myself in this past summer vacation. On this week long trip, it wasn't for the warm ocean waves or the traditional Dominican cuisine I was called to, I was called to serve the beautiful Dominican people. On the third day of the trip, instead of heading out to the worksite where we had been pouring the concrete footers of a plastics and water filter factory, I opted to travel with a group to the childrens' cancer ward in Santiago and visit the patients. We started out our visit by performing a few dances we had taught our vacation bible school and handing out fun little gift we had brought with us. We played ball with some…

The year I turned six, my mom decided to migrate to Mexico. However, she was not able bring my one year old sister along. While my little sister stayed with my grandparents, my mom and I flied out to Mexico. I still remember the feeling in my stomach the moment I stepped out of that airport. I was an ocean away from my hometown. My first day of school was chaos. Everyone in the school was speaking in Spanish. I did not understand the customs and mannerisms. It was difficult to not feel as an outcast. The most complicated part was expressing my feelings, and my needs to the teachers. I lived in Mexico, Tijuana for six years, after becoming adapted to the environment, my mom came home one day and told me that we are moving to the United States.…

Imagine starting a race twenty minutes after the other participant, this gives them a head start hence lowering your chances to vanquish your opponents in the race. This example applies to real-life issues like the people born in high and stable economic situations. Their probability to succeed in life is higher than those indigenous from third-world countries. Panama faces this problem and I have no doubt a change can be achieved and I can be the one who does it because everyone deserves the chance to succeed if they try hard. During last year, I had the chance to be elected as coach and teach a group of teenage boys, the fundamentals of soccer; what I did not realize was that this experience was going to change me completely.…

Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela, a place where tourists come from all over the country to enjoy the sun, the beaches, the islands, and the coral reefs. Puerto La Cruz was a getaway for a lot of people, just some place to go on vacations and have a good time, but for me it was my home. The spring of 2014, by that time every morning when you walk outside your house you can feel the sea breeze and even when it’s cold, you close your eyes and smile, because it warms your heart. Now if I close my eyes, all I can do it’s relive that moment over and over again. The moment when only six words coming from my mom’s mouth felt like a thousand knives in my heart and changed my life forever. “We’re moving to the United States”.…

I came to America across all of Mexico. It was very difficult to cross Mexico not only because is big, but also because there are people who despise you, throw stones at you, and treat you bad just for being an immigrant. Overwhelmed. The only word I can think of when the flight attendant calmly says, “Welcome to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, you may now unfastened your seatbelts.” Tears fell from my eyes and all the emotions that I was feeling for the last 4 hours suddenly began pouring out. I had never been to Haiti and the only mindset of it I had was that there was killing and kidnapping. I was extremely anxious because of that. “NO!, YES!, NO!, YES!, NO!!”, my conflicted mind begins to yell. I couldn't believe that I was actually there. Holding up the line, I got off the plane as slowly as possible. Ironically, being up in the air was much more relieving than being on the grounds IN HAITI !. “Daph, you’ll be alright,” my mom says. “Hopefully,” I mumbled. I thought to myself that maybe just maybe I will actually enjoy it.You will never actually understand the importance of bigger things without appreciating the little things…

I kept crying every day over stuff I’ve lost in my country, but my grandmother encouraged me to look for positive outcomes. We were safe now, away from all of those cartel members who were prosecuting us, and that have assaulted my dad (who was a police officer) several times, now I understand why Mom cried every time Dad called her in the midnight. I also had access to a better education. Since I had to pay for High School in my country, now being able to attend it for free in the U.S is something I’m very thankful of, in addition of a better economic…

We had to say our last goodbye to our little house we had lived in our whole lives. When we were leaving, my family and relatives were at the house saying their goodbyes and giving hugs. “Do we really have to leave everyone and move, mom?” I asked. “Your dad and I have agreed that it will be a good move for the family, now stop complaining about it.” she told me. The only thing I wanted to do that day was stay in our old house and cry because I didn’t want to leave my family at all, I was really dreading moving to Florida. When we headed off on the roads I was still upset about the move, but my parents kept telling me it will be okay but that didn’t help me feel any…

All these elements exposed demonstrated the reason to fear for my life, if I return to Cuba. During the last year I have been intimidated and harass by the government. I am sure the government will be removed me from my position in the job of twenty years. I am one of the few specialist in the archival treatment of cartographic material in Cuba. Obviously my major concern is to be incarcerated for the only reason of being in disagreement with the totalitarian Cuban government which control and manipulated all the information. In my jumble opinion the professional incarcerated is vulnerable to the government atrocity and don’t has any civil…
