Narrative Essay: It's Typical For A Winter Day
It’s typical for a winter morning.
The clouds hang heavily in the sombre skies. Shadows of the barren trees fall upon the blanket of crisp, drifting, white snow that covers every inch of the frozen ground. icicles cling to the eves, sparkling in the silver rays of light that shine through the clouds. Everything is shrouded in mist and silence. There’s no sound, save for the occasional bird’s chirp or trill.
I feel the wind gnawing at my cheeks and tug the fraying end of my chunky knit scarf.
Snowflakes settle on the black wool of the heavy coat, where the rest for a moment, before melting into nothingness.
My breath lingers before me in white puffs, like tiny clouds that hovered there before my very eyes, then fade away into the hazy hues

The light from the sun fell upon the boy, making him seem almost angelic.
I allow him to pull me to my feet. His hands are soft and warm.
We bound through the fields, grinning from ear to ear, not bothering to look back.
The fields stretch on endlessly.
It’s a wonder we haven’t grown weary yet.
Soon the fields were soaked in moonlight.
Miah glanced towards me; I glance back, expecting to see his wide, glowing grin. But he’s no longer smiling. His blue-grey eyes are wide with fear.
“We have to get out of here...Now…”
“Miah?”
“GO!”
I hesitate, and I realise now, there is nothing beneath my feet. We’re falling down, into places we cannot name. We cannot see anymore, for the light has been drained. We cannot feel, or hear, or breathe.
I feel his fingertips brush against my own. Though are they really his own? They’re so...cold.
A pair of glowing eyes suddenly pierces the unbroken darkness.
Everything stops.
“Hello…” a voice whispers to us. I can hear Miah’s heart pounding against his chest. His breathing is heavy, almost coming in long, painful sounding wheezes.
“Miah…”
“Shh.”
He reaches towards me with a trembling clammy hand.
“Do you remember what I told you about this?”

If correct, Buckingham’s argument would deal a fatal blow to the southern, pro-slavery argument that was based on Leviticus 25:44-46. During the antebellum period, manumission proved to be a very controversial subject that sparked fear in the hearts of most southerners. Prior to 1800, restrictions on manumission in the southern United States were minimal if not nonexistent. Much of this was due to the concepts of liberty and freedom that had grown out of the American Revolution. So great was this Revolutionary sentiment that manumissions rates increased in several states.…

You feel the cool air warm up around yourself. There is a pleasantness that can only be found in these warm winter days. Birds squawk overhead. In a pack they fly in v’s. You wanted to fly, but the dream fled after you jumped off the deck. Birds gain height, you gained a broken arm. The birds slow and descend onto the small patch of grass to your left. Looking out the front window, the ground was covered in powdery white snow, sparkling, like it had glitter in it. I took in the brilliant sight right in front of me, it was, for lack of a better description, magical. Even the road that had not yet been driven on was covered in a perfect blanket of snow, but something else caught my eye. From where I was standing, it looked like nothing more than a blob of color, but against the world of white in front of me, it initiated my curiosity.…
