Within weeks she was sent, like all children are, to elementary school. She exceeded academic expectations in her early years, but struggled immensely with the social aspect of school. It wasn’t until third grade when she met her first best friend Leigh-Anna that she ever had friends at all. The next few years went by wonderfully, her intelligence soared, her social circle grew, and there was a new member of the family. Around the age of 8 Pat entered her life. He was her step dad, however he was not married to her mom but to her dad. Her dad was gay, which never bothered her the same way it bothered other people in North Carolina. She enjoyed her childhood. Full of happy memories even with the absence of a mother for the majority of those early years. Then another twist in the story.
