Narrative Essay On Home Recovery
The thought of returning to a full life after my burn injury was one that stood taller than a mountain. I will forever possess sincere feelings for those who were there supporting and guiding me in my recovery from friends, doctors, nurses, and family. As I returned home from the hospital the front door to our house resembled a revolving door with friends and family constantly coming and going. The teachers from my high school personally called me to express their love and care, one even offered to bring a web cam into her classroom so I would not fall behind on the material! The sheer support and constant uplifting made my month long journey of home recovery fly by. After three years, a trip to the Chapel Hill Burn Center ICU, Shriner’s

After VA-Tech and our marriage, over the past forty-two-plus years, in spite of what has happened, and in defiance of the difficult health problems, I have prevailed. My deep faith in God has allowed me to overcome the loss of three children, all those surgeries, chemical treatments, and death. I have always thought it was my job to get through life as gracefully as possible, and I have done my best to struggle, not always in silence, but always with determination. As you know, I have been blessed to be on this journey with a wonderful man, my, dear, sweetheart, Frank.…

The short of the week was about a woman that lost her house in the hurricane. The person interviewed is one of the "survivors of Sandy" that talks about how upsetting it has been losing her house and most of her belongings. Most of the visuals are footage of the house with only the basic structure standing showing that her house is completely empty and also showing the "black water" that destroyed her house. Also putting slow music and setting a sad mood with the footage of outside the house with dead flowers. But as the lady starts talking about how she has overcome this lost by saying that her garden is more beautiful than ever, showing roses and new bloomed flowers. I can sort of relate to this story because I saw my girlfriend go through…

Walking around school and doors slamming into my face because no one would open them. Going out to eat and everyone staring at the “cripple.” Being in a full leg brace with crutches was a challenge. The only good that came from it physically was my arms got a little bit stronger. Under my arms I developed awful rashes that burned me tremendously. Mentally, I became a better person in every way possible. I was a very reckless individual and I stopped at nothing. I'd jump off buildings into snowbanks and not think about the consequences if I got hurt. My first time getting hurt changed my views on everything. Before I do anything, I think about my knee. It taught me to appreciate my body and not to beat on it constantly. I also feel grateful that I do have a very healthy body. Although my knee does hurt all the time, I can still walk. Now when I see someone disabled in anyway, I do not stare. Instead I feel a sense of sympathy for them. I understand the everyday struggles they must go through that other people might not consider. Before my injury, I never realized the simple things in everyday life are the biggest challenges to…

This week the locations that I researched were places, areas, and environments, we will help out with. Also, I drove around town and found a couple of parks where homeless people live. Really soon, these parks that I found we will hand out bags of food containing sandwiches, fruits and bottles of water. The homeless we assume need help with food and clothing to survive, so to achieve our goal is to help them out one step at a time. The progression of this project is quite difficult because of David and I schedules are different, so we will make plans to meet each other to progress on our project. The motives that we need to accomplish next week are giving out our hand crafted bags of food. Some ideas we need to plan are our schedules and anything…

The moment I looked out the window of the car and my eyes turned to the row of homeless people weaving its way through the traffic begging for money, I jumped out of my seat. It was my first visit to India after leaving the country for the United States. The homeless people's’ hands were making weird gestures and thumping the windows of the honking cars. I could not digest what I was seeing! While reaching out to an old woman to give her some money, I thought about what non homeless people could do to help those without a home and basic needs. Then, I asked myself a question. Why not give them something that will be with them forever and help them out of their poverty and teach them valuable skills? After all, a mountain of…

God forbid if my family became homeless. The realization of what actually happens in the real world didn’t hit me until one day, after I came home from school, I was in eighth grade at that time, my mom was sitting in an unusual posture in the living room, as if she was contemplating something in deep thought. I walked past her, went to the kitchen where I ate my food already prepared for me and when I was done I came over to my mom and talked about what she was so flustered in thought. What she told that very moment made me stone cold with fear and shock. My mom said that the house is on the brink of foreclosing and if we don’t get the money to pay for it the house will go away and we will have to go somewhere else. I had no idea how to react…

About 2 hours later, my family finally realized that I was missing. They searched for me for the rest of the day! Mom looked all through the house, while Dad and my sister looked elsewhere. The hunt went on for another thirty minutes, and then they got tired and took a break. I spent those two and a half hours sitting on the swing in the backyard with a book in my paw, because I couldn’t figure out how to get down. However, drow spells are only temporary, because they don’t usually need much time to put anyone in chains. By the end of the day, I was turned back into my human form. When my family resumed the search, I situated myself on my bed and started reading. They never did find out that I was that stray…
