I told them who I was, how I wanted to encourage mathematics participation around the country, and what I wanted to do through Mu Alpha Theta. Miraculously, they liked me enough to elect me as the vice president. This year, I have a lot on my shoulders. As the president of my school’s Mu Alpha Theta, I am responsible for generally running the club, but have additionally decided to host a small math competition for elementary schoolers. So far, I have delegated test writing, gained administrative approval, and received registration for 73 participants. This has been an incredibly complex and stressful event to personally plan, but it is the training wheels to planning the state convention next semester.
It’s hard to describe all that I have gained from Mu Alpha Theta. This club helped me grow from introvert to extravert, become a public speaker, gave me experience as an administrator, taught me how to teach through tutoring, and developed my identity. Nothing has ever contributed to my personal growth to such an extent as Mu Alpha
