AT&T Stadium is a world-renowned stadium. Housing over 100 thousand people very little of its 3 million square feet goes to waste. It is home to one of the largest HD screens in the world, and a retractable roof. When you hear the words "Red Carpet Bowl" you immediately think of the annual football bowl games that they sponsor in the month of August to kick off the football season with a preseason celebration. I have been a spectator at these annual bowl games for over ten years. Once I entered high school I participated in the bowl games as a cheerleader, dancer, and band member.…

I walked into the doors of Statehouse Expo Center, my feet walking with the sound of my bag rolling over the little cracks on the light floor tile, my white uniform as crisp as a fall breeze. With every step further, I could see more people. Lots more people. The mats filled with people. People who spend their whole lives working to be where they are, on those mats. Sparring, combat, weapons and forms. XMA in one corner, Black Belts in another corner, everyone else in a corner and staging in a corner. All surrounded by a Sr. Master or the occasional Master. When we get to a tournament, our team always meets up. Then all the kids go explore. We found our team and all the kids put away their IPads and Kindle Fires.…
The sun hung from the middle of the sky and seemed to almost liquefy the city below. The street reflected the heat like a tanning mirror placed beneath you. A car alarm echoed throughout the wide block before Bank of the West – an average looking bank painted tan with horizontal architecture that swept up the front of the structure. Two bullet holes plastered the echoing car like stickers placed meticulously on a movie set. Steam seeped from the engine block through the cracks of the hood and out into the blistering air, evaporating almost instantly in the blaze. A group of firemen detached the battery and doused the engine of the car with water, sending even more steam once again into the heated air. News reporters stood in front of bulky white vans, ducking the heat under sidewalk trees and overhangs from neighboring buildings. A bulky group of local citizens crowded behind police barriers surrounding the bank in an extensive ring. The barriers held back the murmuring crowd as chatter about what had happened drifted between their ears. An abundance of police officers stood around silently like mutes with sweat dripping from their brows, waiting for the detectives to finish and vacate the scene so they could do the…
I am from San Antonio, Texas and growing up in San Antonio was a great experience. I am proud to be from a big city with a small town feel with strong family values. San Antonio is a city rich in culture that her people love as much as Texas.…
On January 26th, I made a huge error in my basketball game against West Central. To anybody else, that game might have seemed unimportant- insignificant really. They were not a conference rival or a sectional team. To me however, this game was very significant because I used to attend that school. At that game, I played all of my friends from kindergarten to fifth grade. I hoped that I didn’t make a fool of myself. I hoped to do amazing so that all of my old friends would see what a great basketball player I had become. I hoped that I would make a play so amazing that everyone would remember it. While I would certainly not forget the play I made, it was not the spectacular one I had dreamed. My gym teacher- Mr. Prairie asked the class, “Who’s ready for the basketball game tonight against West Central,” and I wondered if I was. Because of my insistent worrying I could not manage to make a play through all of gym class (we were playing basketball)…
I have always love to play basketball. The swish when you make it just right, and the boom of the basketball hitting the floor “are sounds I love”. When I first started playing basketball, my mom and my couch Richard knew that I was expectational. I played with Richard for a few years, then one day he told us about this newspaper ad he saw for a team named “Eugene Fire”. My mom decided to check it out, so she called the coach, Jim. He said I probably won't make the team, but I believed I could. So I would try anyways.…
"Not again!" I protested when I heard Mom's news. "Where are we going this time?" We've moved six times in the twelve years since I was born. That's because my Dad's job is to set up offices for his company, and each time he finishes establishing a new one, we move. "California," said Mom. "I'm sorry we have to uproot you again." She opened a map and pointed out the town we'd be moving to, north of San Francisco. She truly sounded sorry, but I could see she was pleased, too, because she's from California. She'd always said Chicago was too noisy for her. For one thing, the elevated railway wasn't far from our apartment. Whenever the trains rumbled past, the chandelier in our living room swung to and fro. My stomach felt full of cold lead. You'd think I'd be used to moving, but I felt sick every time. Now I'd have to say good-bye once more to the friends and places I'd just come to feel comfortable with. Plus, Chicago was the most exciting place we'd lived. It had everything—great parks, libraries, museums, skating rinks, and playing fields. Only five blocks from home was the Youth Center, where I played volleyball or board games or just hung out joking around with friends. That day, after learning the news, I went straight to the Youth Center to find my friends. Their smiles turned into gloomy frowns when I said I'd be leaving in a few weeks. We grumbled about my bad luck. Finally, Eric said, "Moaning and groaning isn't going to change anything. Can anyone say something good about this move?" Sarah piped up, "Well, Megan…you'll be lying on a warm beach while we're still slogging through the snow." I pictured myself lazing on a stretch of white sand, a gentle blue sea rocking before me and palm trees rustling behind me. I could go for that. "Just think," added Josh, "no freezing rain or sub-zero temperatures." "No tornados. No blizzards," contributed Kayla. "Just lovely, sunny days." "Yeah. All you have to worry…
“San Antonio sounds great.” Sarcastically I said. Having the whole week in San Antonio, with a cousin you just despised. I don’t despise her just because. I despised her, because she is leaving me, to go to Los Angeles. Without even saying a word that’s why I despised her. “I just know this vacation is going to be the worst.” I said…
Anita DeFrantz's heels clicked softly on the concrete steps leading up to the District of Columbia courthouse. The tall white building glared down at her, reminding her how important this was, not only to her, but to the others she came to represent. She thought of her rowing team, enjoying a day of practice, about how satisfying the pull of the oar against the water was. She thought about how terrible it would be if that was taken away. Panic consumed her, and she had to take a long, calming breath before heading inside.…
The day of September 1, I missed class to be with my family in Memphis. My mom wanted everyone in our immediate family to gather together because my brother was leaving for the army. It was such an exciting week because I haven’t been home to see them in about year prior. My brother has recently graduated from high school and also turned 18. I am beyond proud of the person he has become, so to see him all grown up making the decision to leave home brought tears to my eyes.…

Women lack a voice who will advocate for them in promoting their abilities and skills to help them accomplish the upward mobility they so desire both in the workplace and in their careers. They are held to a higher standard than men because of their new found independence and drive to be successful. Gender Inequality has been an ongoing problem that has impacted society for many years. Although there are a number of issues associated with the topic, the concept of the glass ceiling and women’s exploitation are important and very real in today’s society. This paper will cover a brief history of gender inequality, the transition of women from home to the workplace, the concept of the Glass ceiling and exploitation amongst women in the workplace…
