Happiness is truly a feeling that everyone gets. Whether it’s getting that favorite game or a new car, the way people see happiness can be different than others. The pursuit of happiness is what inspires true happiness and that is something indescribable. In Charles Mungoshi short story, “the setting sun and the rolling world”, he describes two different perspectives of happiness. The perspective of old Musoni and his son, Nhamo. Mungoshi’s most important theme is that one’s pursuit of happiness can give someone pain. Three important examples support this. The first is Nhamo and his father, old Musoni, arguing about Nhamo’s decision. The second is old Musoni’s fear for his son in the big world. The third is old Musoni’s emotional approval for his son. These examples would demonstrate and help with the idea of the theme.…
"Actual happiness always looks pretty squalid in comparison with the over-compensations for misery. And, of course, stability isn't nearly so spectacular as instability. And being contented has none of the glamour of a good fight against misfortune, none of the picturesqueness of a struggle with temptation, or a fatal…
We often encourage people to actively pursue their happiness and discourage them to escape from the reality. However, escaping is also a way of pursuing happiness, even though escaping will only provide temporary happiness and facing the reality will make true happiness possible. The short story “Horses of the Night” uses its character Chris to demonstrate the idea that individuals may escape from the miserable aspects of life to stay happy, however, individuals will compromise their ability to pursue true happiness if they escape.…
I sat there in disbelief, I couldn’t believe my new teacher was forcing me hike a trail and then write a essay about it. But I had to, so I decided to hike the Indian Hill trail, besides I had heard positive reviews about this trail by my friends. The leaves were just turning hues of gold and yellow, I stepped out of the car and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t freezing cold My mom yelled after me, ‘’Be safe.’’ I ignored her. So I started to hike up the trail it was nice, I usually hiked in the Adirondacks so this was a pleasant change. Hardwoods are different than hiking in the pine forest of the mountains, for one thing on this trail there was only a slight incline where as in the mountains the trails…
Yesterday me and my Dad went on an 11ish mile hike on the Appalachian Trail. This hike was probably one of the coolest hikes I've been on. It went from one beautiful landscape to another. As I was laying in bed that night with my muscles aching from the extra 1.5 miles we didn't plan on, I realized I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my Dad. He introduced me to my love of the outdoors and my passion to hike the entire AT. I hope one day ,Dad, we can stand on Mount Katahdin together and look back at the 2190 miles behind…
A hill of aspens, glowing golden, shines on the right side of the trail while the left side is a pine-covered hill. Between the two is the trail, a magical escape from reality. This is my sanctuary of Buffalo Peaks wilderness. The trying experience of hiking through the mountains with 40 pounds on your back, the straps of your pack rubbing the skin off your hips and shoulders. The tension building in your muscles as you struggle under the weight. The pain that can only be diluted by a yoga session and a trip to the hot springs. Sun salutations in a lush, meadow valley. Warrior one and reverse warrior in the heat of the sun, relaxing from the miles we traveled just the day before.…
The trail continued around the east side of the lake entering a gathering of trees forming an insignificant forest along the lake’s shoreline. From our viewpoint, the trees concealing the trail eventually dispersed on the southeast side of the lake, and the trail blended into the landscape. Using our imagination, we envisioned the route against the rugged terrain sloping into the lake. No point in taking a vote now, we had trekked to the lake and the consensus was to proceed with a lap around the lake.…
Over the summer, I attended a weeklong hike at Philmont Scout Ranch. I had to pack a variety of…
The Appalachian Trail and a category four hurricane are two things that do not mix well together. This is the last thing any hiker would want to be caught up in. Thirty miles from civilization, there’s nothing but wet ground and an angry sky.…
Could you imagine walking through 14 states? The Appalachian Trail goes through 14 different states. The Appalachian Trail has many topics including people walking the trail all year long, trail names, and people walking different parts and sections of the trail.…
It’s been 3 decades since my journey from East to West. Many have censored and even forgotten what happened on the exodus of the Natives of America. Almost all historical accounts are in the perspective of an American, the perpetrators. How could a tragic event be prevent from in the future if there are no views of a victim. Therefore, I as a witness of the Trail of Tears, have collected my memories to help enlighten those who are clueless.…
The trail out back the beauty of nature and the smell of the fresh air. The leaves they’re falling all around you. As you walk the trail leads you to a big waterfall that not many people know about. As you just sit on the rock and watch the leaves fall while the sun sets it’s the most beautiful thing you could ever see. Listening to the birds make their music while lying on the rock besides the water. It’s calm and relaxing; However it can get a bit chilly. Sometimes if you take the four wheeler or dirt bike out back Zoey will run along side of you. Zoey is our dog she runs just as fast as the four wheeler does. Then I imagine of being a little girl again going out back with my dad. We used to catch salamanders on our way to where we were going.…
It was around nine a.m. on a crisp spring morning when I decided to go on a hike. I drove over to our public hiking trail and parked by the “Ruby hiking trail’ entrance. I got out of my car and grabbed my backpack that had my water bottle, salad, sweatshirt, and blanket in it. As I was walking down the trail, I heard birds singing, trees creaking, deer running, rabbits hopping, and a light breeze. About an hour into the hike, I started to get hungry. However, it was only about ten a.m. and I was hungry for lunch. I kept hiking down the trail so I could find a place to lay out my blanket. As I was walking I saw a sign that said “12 miles”, that meant that I had already walked twelve miles in one hour. After passing the sign, there was an open…
It was very late when they docked in Sagera and it took some time to arrange for the carriages to pick them up since no one anticipated their early return. Nightburn quietly waited at the end of the dock with the others, no one wanting to talk. The only thing they all wanted was to be on their way back to the manor. After a half hour, the carriages arrived with everyone moving forward to greet them and begin their journey home. Balthazar appeared from out of the darkness, “My Lord, please get in and let’s be on our way.”…
My heart sank when I heard that Shaxton was my partner for the day’s hike. He wasn't a bad kid, but he was small and a little clumsy, and I don't think I'd ever heard him speak. The other campers tended to avoid him.…
