On January 13th, 2003 Susan Lucille Wright murdered her husband Jeffrey Wright. The day after the murder she began an unsuccessful cleanup of the murder. Susan buried her husband in the backyard of their home in Houston Texas. In her attempt to cover up the “crime of passion”, Susan painted the walls. She also attempted to rip up the carpet and bleach the remaining areas. She took the partially disassembled bed frame and put it in the backyard. Susan then proceeded to the police station to file a protective order on the terms of domestic abuse. Eleven days had passed, Susan Lucille Wright confessed to her Attorney Neal Davis, that she indeed murdered her husband. The body, partially unearthed by the family dog, which also …show more content…
had chewed off Jeffrey’s left hand. The trial had commenced on February 24th,2004. Most of the public claimed that Susan had been a battered wife. Though her prosecutor Kelly Siegler disagreed, her opinions of Susan were that she was scheming. and planned the murder to collect life insurance. While on the defensive side Neal Davis counterargued that Susan had endured years of abuse and killed Jeff to protect herself and her two boys. Siegler decided to further prove her argument proving Susan guilty of murder, rather than a crime of passion. Siegler decided to bring the original bed from the household, the blood- stained mattress including the bed frame. She also called for the knife that was used for the murder, to also be involved in her demonstration. The knife was found in a flower pot on the patio. Siegler being about the size of Susan, she also chose a colleague the same size as Jeffrey. They acted out the scene of what happened that night.
In conclusion, after five hours of deliberation, on March 2nd,2004 nevertheless the jury found Susan Wright guilty of murder.
Upon the guilty plea, Susan Lucille Wright was sentenced to twenty-five years. In November of 2010, Susan had been resentenced to twenty years. The judge believed during the punishment phase of her trial Susan had inadequate representation. Recently in 2014 Susan has been eligible for parole, which in which she did not receive. In my opinion, I would also believe that Susan committed murder. Normal human beings don’t stab each-other 193 times because of abuse. Susan’s sentencing seems fit for the crime she
committed.
