Continued Version of Raymond’s Run by: Anali Guzman
The Sun’s rays were beginning to fight its way through the curtains as Raymond wakes up to the faint melody of birds chirping, and the sound of squeaky’s voice calling out to him. “Time to wake up for your daily training, now this time we will run a mile today. No whining this time, I have no time for your nonsense,” yells Squeaky while entering Raymond’s bedroom.
“Fine, but promise me that we will go get some refreshments afterwards,” replies Raymond.
“If you insist,” answers Squeaky with a big sigh.
Raymond then rapidly gets dressed to experience the big day ahead of him. They go to the kitchen and eat an appetizing meal to get them …show more content…
throughout the day. The children head to go meet up with Gretchen, since Squeaky and her are training him. They soon arrive at Gretchen’s house, and were all ready to coach Raymond. “Hi guys!”greets Gretchen with a big smile. “Hi Gretchen!” respond Raymond and Squeaky in unision.
They all head off to the park to judge Raymond’s improvement. Gretchen and Squeaky first test Raymond's running skills. They calculate his speed and how fast he could run a mile. So far his highest was in ten minutes with forty-five seconds. Raymond is eager to beat his high score. Finally it came to a conclusion where Raymond runs the mile in five minutes and twenty-five seconds. He finishes with a sweaty, wet body from head to toe. Squeaky and Gretchen are so happy that he soon accomplished his goal. But Raymond cant handle his heavy breathing, and soon receives an asthma attack. “Raymond!” yells Squeaky with great urge. “Oh no, we should call 911,” explains Gretchen to Squeaky.
Squeaky takes out her cellphone and immediately dials 911. “Hello, this is 911 what's your emergency?” answers the phone receiver. “My brother is suffering from an asthma attack,” chokes out Squeaky while crying and worrying about her brother’s health.
“Okay, stay calm, all I need is your location,”replies the receiver with a soothing voice.
“Well I am in Waterfall Park” sobs Squeaky.
“Okay we will be there as fast as we could,”the receiver assured them.
The receiver hangs up on Squeaky. In just a few minutes the ambulance arrives and comes to their aid. Raymond is soon inside the ambulance, followed by Gretchen and Squeaky. Squeaky also informs her mother on the way to the hospital. Her surroundings blur, she is filled with great worry about her brother. She feels guilt raising up her chest as she realizes that it was her responsibility to take care of Raymond. Finally they arrive at the hospital, and carry Raymond on a “rolling bed”. He is taken to the emergency room, but Squeaky and Gretchen are ordered to stay outside the room.
“Do you think he’ll be okay?” interrogates Gretchen.
“I hope so,” answers Squeaky with enthusiasm.
While Gretchen and Squeaky are waiting for almost an hour, a tall mature elderly man comes and informs Raymond’s stabilization.
“Based on his severe attack, he will have to recover and stay in the hospital for three more days. “ notifies Dr. Wintsen. He later leaves and walks towards a different direction.
Squeaky and Gretchen stare bewildered at each other. The race takes place in three days, meaning that Raymond won’t be able assist it. Silence spontaneously surrounds them, a they come up with ideas to fix this confusion. Squeaky breaks the chain of silence as she explains her idea.
“I could cover up for Raymond, I am as legible as him to participate in the race instead. It would a benevolent action to do since he is in an ill state right now.” confirms Squeaky.
“Sounds great! I am glad you came up with a fantastic idea,” says Gretchen.
They both leave the hospital later that evening and head home. Night takes over the sky, filling up darkness at every corner. Stars are born into the night sky, providing shining shimmering lights. Lights that fill Squeaky’s eyes with hope that Raymond will soon recover.
The next mournful morning, Squeaky wearily wakes up. She is very exhausted and can’t get over of what happened yesterday. She quickly gets dressed into her comfortable clothes and heads at Gretchen’s house. She knocks repeatedly at the door until Gretchen answers.
“Oh hi Squeaky, “ greets Gretchen with a smile.
“Hi Gretchen, could you help me train for the race?” Squeaky asks.
“Yea sure, Let me get dressed first,”Gretchen says.
They both head off at the Waterfall Park. There Squeaky practices for the big race. It is in two days, they work very hard and are eager to win first place.
Two days have recently passed.
Today is the race that they have all been waiting for. Squeaky is prepared to overtake the race. Trees dance in excitement as she walks towards the starting line. The sun’s rays shine onto her brown eyes. Everyone waits for the whistle to emit a clear, high pitched sound as a sign for the race to begin. And then the whistle is blown. Squeaky pushes off the grass. She remembers the excitement and freedom she felt when she runs. The wind blows across her face giving chills down her spine. The thought of Raymond comes to her head making her legs work harder. She would win this race for …show more content…
him.

Doctors busy themselves going from a room to another. But in that instant, doctors and nurses rushed to a specific room. Another asthma attack was happening, and this particular one had come with a mission. Its mission was to end the life of the patient that was in that room. A bead of sweat was gracefully sliding across his wary face as the doctors did everything in their power to save him.

Squeaky’s heart was pumping blood into her legs. She was close to the finish line and was also aware of the opponent right in back of her. He was close to beating her and winning first place. But she couldn't let him win. Gretchen’s voice could be heard in the background cheering for Squeaky, and giving her strength. Squeaky was almost there...she was close to winning.

The doctors were pumping oxygen into Raymond’s lungs hoping he would survive.
His heart rate was decreasing dramatically losing his battle to the severe asthma attack. But in his mind was not only the thought of living, but of his sister, Squeaky, who was running for him. Squeaky just needed one last step to finish. She emitted the last strand of strength in her, and crossed the white and black line collapsing on the earth, enveloping it in a hug. In her head was the smile and happiness of Raymond when she would go to the hospital and tell him about her latest triumph. But what she didn’t know was that Raymond also used his last strand of strength. He used it and failed against his battle of Asthma. The high pitched noise of his dead heart rang through the room until one of the nurses turned off the machine. They wondered how they would explain this to Squeaky. Squeaky had won the race. Gretchen and her were currently hugging. The man who had blown the whistle came to her and gave her her medal. “C’mon! Let’s go tell Raymond!” exclaims Gretchen. “Let’s go!” cries Squeaky with excitement. They both run off to the hospital. Once they reach the hospital they are both out of breath. When Squeaky enters the hospital she knows something’s wrong. It feels empty, vacant although there are people in the building. “I’m here to see Raymond.” She tells the lady behind the front
desk. “I’m so sorry, hun.” She says looking at Squeaky with sorrow. “He’s gone.” “Gone?” Squeaky says shaking his head. “To another hospital?” she asks hoping for the lady to say yes and not tell her that he had died. “No, sweetie. He’s gone forever.” she told Squeaky above a whisper. Squeaky broke down and buried her face into her hands. She felt the comfort of Gretchen as Gretchen enveloped her in a hug. Squeaky lifted her gaze as tears fell, and she looked towards where her brother’s weak figure once was. While she won the race for Raymond, Raymond had lost his own race: his race to live.
