In the “Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass,” we see many different slaveholders who treat slaves horribly and very cruelly. We think of these slaveholders as sadistic, emotionless people who seem to like causing pain to other human beings. They express themselves as men and women against God and betraying the rules of Christianity. They express this, yet we see many of them are still devout Christians who follow the Bible. How can someone deprave and judge other human beings by the color of their skin while their religion says that all men are created equal?
