Media Narrative Progression HW Qs.
1) A romantic comedy is often about two young people (typically a man and a woman) who meet, and appear to be meant for each other, but are then separated. They then always reunite by the end of the film. An action thriller generally shows a “good vs. evil” concept, where the protagonist and antagonist are fighting, often under an intense or “thrilling” feeling – thrillers often follow the protagonist and the obstacles he faces and overcomes. There is a constant goal or pursuit, and is often done under the growing sense of threat/danger.
2)
A) The setting of the opening sequence of Toy Story is Andy’s house.
B) Every character is introduced in this opening sequence except for Sid, Sid’s family, Sid’s toys and Buzz.
C) That there is a birthday party happening and that Woody is Andy’s favourite toy.
3) A) Woody and Buzz are now friends and have overcome their differences. Buzz has come to a realization that he is a toy. Buzz and Woody realize they need to work together to get back home. Woody accepts that he isn’t the No. 1 toy in the house anymore and accepts this.
B) They have fallen out of the car as a result of fighting, have gotten to Pizza Planet and have been picked up by Sid and taken to his house. They have had the issue of breaking out of Sid’s house, and discovering that Sid’s toys are nice people. They have had to overcome their differences, as well as Buzz realizing and accepting he is a toy, and Woody accepting that he is not Andy’s favourite toy anymore.
C) Buzz has accepted he is a toy, and is okay with it. Woody realizes he is not No. 1 anymore, and he is okay with it. They are both more likable characters, and they are both friends.
D) Buzz and Woody are now friends, and have put their past behind them. Woody is okay with Buzz being the “cool toy” and Buzz is okay with being a “toy” and being friends with someone who was, initially, cruel to him. They both get over their superficial first impressions

As portrayed in both stories, Of Mice and Men and A Separate Peace, friendship was undoubtfully the epitome of both plot lines. There was George and Lennie, an odd couple bounded by the ties of “brotherhood and a dream. "'A guy needs somebody-to be near him.' He whined, 'A guy goes nuts if he ain't got nobody.'" (72) There was also Gene and Phineas, the other’s significant self, connected by their balanced natures and undeniable trust. "Naturally I don't believe books and I don't believe teachers, but I do believe-it's important for me to believe you [Gene]. Christ, I've got to believe you, at least. I know you better than anybody" (154). As both authors lead our fellow characters into tough situations, it brings out the solid truth behind their relationships. Through the similarities and differences on the concept of friendship in each book, overall messages can be concluded by both authors based on the actions and thoughts perceived by the characters.…

Gene Forrester and Phineas formed an illusion of a great companionship, which was sincere when they jumped from the "forbidden" tree. "We were the best of friends at that moment," said Forrester when he remembered the instant (Knowles 10). Forrester "looked deeper" into his relationship with Phineas and became jealous of his talents, "I was beginning to see that Phineas could get away with anything. I couldn't help envying that a little, which was perfectly normal" (18). A "silent rivalry" was developed between Forrester and in his mind Phineas. Forrester attempted to become "better" than Phineas by studying more and maintaining a higher average between his academic and athletic…

After hearing Andrew explaining how his father is like, Bender says how he thinks his old man and Andrew’s old man should come together and bowl. Why Bender said this is due to how his father treats him. Bender explains to the other teenagers that his father doesn’t care for him whatsoever. And how that other kids may receive cool gifts for Christmas, but he gets cigarettes from his father. He continues explaining how some kids may be grounded for doing something wrong, but if he just spills a little paint in the garage, his father goes up to him and burns him with a cigar. The other teenagers begin to understand why Bender is so disrespectful and rude. Conversely, Claire, the princess, gets everything she wants, and is always hanging out with the cool kids in the school. Towards the end of the movie, Bender and all of the other teenagers, begin to like each other, seeing that all of them have problems with their parents,…
