We the 3rd year Our Lady of Assumption together with the Our Lady of Lourdes went to a recollection last September 5, 2013. The event was held at the Marian Youth Center located at Angin, Naguilian, La Union and facilitated by Ms. Bernadette Bermudez and Sr. Mary Pauline Dacanay, OSB with the theme: I Am Loved and Forgiven. To officially start the recollection, they instructed us to fall in line outside and wash our hands as a sign of recalling our baptism. After which, we all sung a hymn to the Holy Spirit and talked about the meaning of the word RECOLLECTION by its acronym R-E-C-O-L-L-E-C-T-I-O-N; R – reserve for God in You, E – Encounter with God, C – Caring for others, O – Obedience, L – Listening to God, L – Listening to others, E – Examination of one’s self, C – Cooperation, T – trust, I – Invitation to Prayer, O – Openness, N – Need for silence. The next thing we discussed is about the true identity behind the masks worn by people - what the masks we wear that hinders us to live a peaceful life, the darkness that lie behind the mask, the symbol of darkness, the things we hide and what masks should we wear to hide them. They informed us that the things we, the people, hide are those that are unpleasant. They also let us knew the masks we should wear to hide them and it was the self-righteousness, callousness, indifference, and pretensions. We are not perfect....we have imperfections....inside....and out....we have our own darkness in life. The discussion about the 7 capital sins followed after the lecture about the identities of a person. Sr. Pauline told us the 7 capital sins and their contrary virtues. The first capital sin is the PRIDE which is a desire to be attractive to others, failing to acknowledge the good work of others. The contrary virtue for this sin is the HUMILITY which is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less. The next sin is the ENVY which is similar to jealousy in that they both feel discontent towards someone’s

RESTRICTIVE COVENANT A restrictive covenant may be conceptualized as an agreement (covenant) included in a deed to real property that the buyer (grantee) will be limited (restricted) as to the future use of the property. For example, no fence may be built on the property except of dark wood and not more than six-feet high; no tennis court or swimming pool may be constructed within 30 feet of the property line; and, no structure can be built within 20 feet of the frontage street. Commonly these covenants are written so that they can be enforced by the grantor and other owners in the subdivision, so that future owners will be bound by the covenant (called "covenant running with the land" if enforceable against future owners). “The land where…

On arrival at the church, I was a bit hesitant to enter. The unfamiliar environment around was still causing me to feel nervous. The nervousness was quickly lifted from me the moment I walked in. I was greeted at the door by an elder of the church 30 minutes before mass begun. Her name was Sister Joanna. I had talked with the elder gaining some profound knowledge of the religion and also asked if I could have a seat in the back during mass and take several notes. She complied and made me feel well at home. My first impression of the church was that they were all going to be benevolent and enthusiastic people who loved their religion. My second impression and something that I immediately adored about the church was its beauty and cleanliness. I was convinced that much attention was geared toward maintaining the beauty and quality of the church. As one enters, their ‘holy water’ fountain is an exquisite three part modernistic piece where water flows from square structures into a rectangular pool, all…

As I do not practice any religion, I thought that for the religious experience project, I would write about my observations as my sister rekindles her faith and practice in Roman Catholicism. My sister and I were both raised Catholic by our parents and both attended Sunday school where our grandmother was our teacher. However, after our parents divorced about 17 years ago, we both strayed away from our faith. I went on to keep an open mind and learn of other religions but never found my fit. My sister has recently started to return to Catholicism, expressing her desire to have her child baptized someday. For this paper, I asked if I could accompany her to mass for the first time in 17 years at our childhood church, St. Cecilia Catholic Church…

Within Christianity there is a tendency, when it comes to reflecting on the events that occurred during “Holy Week”, to come to Good Friday and commemorate Jesus’ death on the cross and then to fast-forward ourselves and our thinking from His death to celebrating His resurrection on the following Sunday. Somehow the day in between, Holy Saturday, is often forgotten in this process. To many, Holy Saturday is just the day before Easter but as Cones puts it ‘there’s no Easter Sunday without Holy Saturday’ (Cones, 2006:50). In more recent times there has been a bit of a revival in thought over this day. There are people who are thinking about and reflecting upon the experience of Holy Saturday. They have attempted to find meaning and relevancy for this day which is so often overlooked by many. This paper will look at the most common reflections of Holy Saturday and will assess and critique these reflections.…

On Friday, I had a wonderful phone conversation, which lasted an hour, with a retired pastor from Iowa. He mentioned the importance of developing relationships with fellow pastors in the town where a pastor serves. Additionally, the conversation included the importance of building a strong relationship with the Holy Spirit and learning to hear his voice. I also spent about an hour collecting my thoughts and notes from the week and organizing my list of key relationships. And Saturday was a light day as I spent approximately an hour reflecting and writing this week’s journal entry.…

It has been 5 months since my wife and I returned from a trip of a lifetime to the Holy Land. On second thought, I’m not sure that I’ve fully returned yet…yes, my body has, but there are times when my heart and mind are still there. We experienced many exciting sights, sounds, great food, and fellowship—it was indeed a wonderful trip. We experienced the fellowship of our brothers and sisters in Christ who were on the trip; the fellowship of our hosts; and, above all the fellowship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. We visited many places, walked where Jesus walked, and were amazed at the emotions we experienced during our time in Israel. Now, it’s important to this devotional to tell you we didn’t actually visit the village of Emmaus. Still, I can imagine what it must have been like for the pilgrims [disciples] as they walked along that ancient road and then as Jesus revealed Himself and the truth to them that day and during the evening meal.…
