Narrative Report Peer Recovery

Over Spring Break on April 6th 2016 I interviewed a counselor at Denver Health by the name of Danitta St.Vrain. Danita is a counselor at Denver Health in charge of the Peer Recovery Program. The Peer Recovery Program is a program in which people who have addictions to drugs are helped through a very helpful, non traditional recovery process. The Peer Recovery program offers individuals who suffer from substance abuse a welcome environment guided by people who have successfully overcome their addiction. Counselors like Danita are there with a strict guiding hand and help the people in the program not only go through certain steps to recovery but help them with social things like finding jobs and homes. I would’ve infact done my interview as soon as possible but due to my bad habit of procrastination my communication ended up being not very effective leading to me not almost getting my assignment completed. Walking into Denver Health, notepad in hand and a dress on, I did not have a very good attitude about what was to come. Due to Denver Health's Very strict client confidentiality policies I was not able to bring my cell phone or a recording device along with me and the idea of having to write everything down and produce a good interview and results was overwhelming. Ms.St.Vrain ended being very welcoming and more relaxed than I had predicted. We had a very casual conversation at a slow pace which turned out being an advantage for my purpose. Turns out I was pretty good at sound intelligent and conducting an effective interview. The only struggle I had was following everything she said, and even though I have had previous knowledge and done extensive research some of the things she had said were confusing. Im sure she liked how I was elaborating on everything she said and asking question regarding the content she shared but in a way I felt a little ashamed that I had to ask so many
