Narrative Therapy- Normally, narrative therapy will be utilized as part of an all-inclusive treatment plan that may consist of other therapy modalities, psychotherapy, group work, and medications and/or medical interventions which occur at my site. Narrative therapy may be effective in a short amount of time with fewer sessions; unlike some traditional behavioral therapy. Most of my clients may only have 12 sessions or less with me. Freedom from addiction is no different, so each client should consider what must be sacrificed, what compliance must be made, in order to achieve real recovery from addiction. Individual members of the group are encouraged to set personal goals for themselves, as well. This is where in-group motivational interviewing and reflective listening is useful. What do you want? What is important to you and your loved ones? Where will you be in five years? Can you remember when you were really happy? What did you experience that first time you used? What about the last time you used? What problems are you having now? Based on the answers, a client can be led into a self-epiphany about the role that substances play as a perceived solution to his or her chronic fears and problems, and in turn goals can be set to achieve healthy cognitive and behavioral changes. The client can be shown alternative solutions to fears and problems, and taught coping skills to carry out of treatment and develop further in aftercare. Another important quality of the co-research position is that of valuing emotional experiences and reflections. Our understanding of the preceding conversation is that in the state of being oppressed by violence, a person is defined by the violence. The concept of choice in that state is a mirage; a woman would not choose violence, but inside of a war zone there is no violence free territory. If the person and the context of violence are separated (deconstructed through externalization) the person 's preferred story of their lives outside the "war zone" context can become visible. This distinction became available in the training conversation due to the process of allowing for correction and respecting the trainees feelings of being emotionally connected or disconnected to the unique accounts of those persons oppressed by the problem.…

Walking into the locker room about to get ready to go to our last football game of the season. I could smell the sweaty equipment from the kids who never take their pads home. The Hempfield Spartans 7th grade team would be ending their season 0-7 if we didn’t win today. As I was changing into my pads my friend mike walked in the room. I said “you ready for tonight”. “Heck yeah” replied Mike.…

There are many goals of parole to a parolee. First, parole is earned through good behavior and self-improvement. The only difference in parole and probation is that if you are on parole, you have been to prison. The main concept of parole is to return the offender gradually to productive lives. Parole serves as a reward for good behavior while in prison. This meaning that the inmate has had no fights or write ups or any sort. The inmate is contributing to a less violent behavior within walls of a prison by providing an incentive to behavior to behave well. Community based treatment for those offenders who no longer need to be isolated from the community. Parolees that are released are at a lower cost than being incarcerated (www.people.missouristate.edu). There are conditions of parole that must be followed. Each parolee is assigned a parole officer they must report to. They will have routine appointments, how often is determined by the officer that must be attended. There is no associating with anyone with a criminal record. A full time job must be kept unless approved by your officer. No alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs will be consumed. Follow all instruction that your officer instructs you to do. If community service has been ordered make sure that the hours are completed. If there is restitution get it paid or make payment plans. There are conditions that are made that can affect your parole. If the parolee fails to report to their officer, fails to participate in a stipulated treatment program, or abuses drugs or alcohol while under supervision. There are many more conditions that can affect a person possibly going back to prison. There is a law that was enacted in 1984 called the Truth-In Sentencing Law that will possibly reduce prison time. This law is to offer greater protection of the victims of the crime and their families. Therefore, the law states that the offender is to…

She gave me a list of things and I wrote them down. We worked together to plan the order of events to make sure everything gets done. Both of my girls write out list when there are multiple tasks to complete in a day. This shows that it is a learned behavior for those who do not use sequence at a use first level.…

The main components of pharmacology in substance use disorders include understanding how the methods of administration and routes of absorption affect the high in individuals. There is undeniably a chemical side to addiction. If a person consumes a substance, it can have an effect on the brain (Clinton, 2009). In solution-focused counseling, the counselor leads the session. Counselors set the tone for the counseling session. They lay out clear expectations and expect the clients to actively participate, in order to produce change. (Goldenberg & Goldenberg, 2013). Solution-focused therapists guide the counseling session, while the clients come up with goals to achieve. Narrative therapy is client-led. The clients lead the session by sharing their stories with the counselor, and come up with new stories that will free them from their past problems. Narrative therapy is also client-led because “narrative therapists reject the expert role, that of believing they understand clients better than clients do themselves” (Goldenberg & Goldenberg, 2013, p. 398). Narrative therapy encourages clients to examine their own lives through the stories they tell, with the hopes they will positively change their stories. Narrative therapy is also client-led because the counselor does not enforce goal achievement. Clients determine whether or not they will achieve their goals. Their ultimate goal is to rewrite their story and change their lives for the…

While an addiction counselor’s main goal is to improve the mental health and wellness of clients through a treatment plan the goals need to be based on the individual the counselor is working with; therefore each case must be individualized to meet the needs of the client. Individual therapy consists of working directly with an individual, an assortment of approaches are used in individual therapy. The approaches include harm reduction, coping skills training, life-skills training, motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy, social skills training, and behavior therapy these approaches are included in the direct effect strategies as well as the broad spectrum strategies. The central component to these strategies is the client- counselor relationship also known as the therapeutic alliance. The counselor must be able to listen objectively to the client, they must be aware of their responses not only verbally but non-verbally as well. They must be able to validate the client through non-verbal communication as well as positive regard. The language the counselor uses must engender motivation toward change for the client. By moving away from negativity these strategies give the clients hope and breed independence which…

Narrative exposure therapy (NET) is evidence-based, a short treatment designed for multiply traumatized survivors. It relies on testimonial psychotherapy, where a patient, together with help of a clinician, chronologically tells a life event with a focus on the trauma. During sessions, patients are required to explain the traumatic event in detail (specifying emotions, sensory information, psychological responses) and encouraged to relive the trauma. Storytelling allows the sufferer to relive not one, but several traumatic events that occurred in their life (if existent). NET allows processing of painful emotions, which leads to significant emotional recovery. KIDNET is designed for treatment of children; it follows the same principles and…
