Muhammad was historically significant in many ways. “...Muhammad, was born in the bustling city of Makkah around A.D. 570.” (pg 271). Muhammad was a man born in Makkah, a city in Arabia, around the year 570 A.D. He was raised by his uncle, since he was orphaned at a young age. “By age 13 he was working as a camel caravan worker.” (notes). At the young age of 13, Muhammad already had a job as a camel caravan worker. “When Muhammad was about 25 years old, Kadijah proposed marriage to him.” (pg 271). When Muhammad was 25, his boss, a 40 year old woman named Kadijah, asked him to marry her, which brought him from the poor class to the elite class. “...in A.D. 610, Muhammad experienced a revelation, or vision.” (pg 272). The Gullah culture started with the transportation of African slaves to the Sea Islands of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. The Sea Islands served as an excellent location for the Gullah culture because of its separation from the mainland. The African slaves, who came from different regions in African, brought with them their language, culture and traditions. Collectively these traditions and languages have merged into one to form Gullah. The Gullah culture has survived over the years by Gullah elders passing down the language and traditions to their children. However, over the past fifty years the Gullah culture has started to die. Three significant factors…

Likely it is because Muslims have been responsible for two of the most prominent terrorist attacks in the past century, including 9/11 in the USA and the November 13 attacks in Paris. There is a clear link between 9/11 and Islam since the group that committed the attack was named “Al-Qaeda,” a self-proclaimed “Islamic” extremist group. I personally know three students in my class in New Jersey who lost a parent during this attack. I remember the videos online of the attack, still evoking strong emotion. It was a day that no American will ever forget. It was also the day where many began to accuse Islam, rather than Islamic extremists, for these attacks. Most of the accusers have never read the Quran, some did not even know where the Middle…

    2. Explain the basic concepts of Islam. Is an unerringly monotheistic religion. It enjoins the existence of one God, his prophet Muhammad who is the Last Prophet in a long line of prophets sent throughout time and to every civilization, and the Quran as the Word of God revealed to Muhammad through the angel Jibrael. Muslims believe that God is one and incomparable and the purpose of life is to worship him and to adhere to his word, as laid down in the Quran, and in Sunnah , as closely as possible. They believe that Islam is the final, completed and universal version of a faith revealed too many prophets before; most notably Abraham, Moses and Jesus, but whose message has now been distorted.…

The Islamics had many great achievements but I think their greatest one was building a trade route through their empire. Muslims were able to make such great contributions because they were open minded and had a high tolerance for different cultures. Because of this, they got to learn from the different countries they took over such as Greece, Rome, and India. They had so many different ideas and all that knowledge led to them making great achievements that lasted and made an impact on the world. Islamics had quite a few achievements in math. One being, as stated in Document 1, that they relied on mathematicians to calculate prayer times and also the direction of the Mecca. Both of these were very important to them because their culture was…

Contrary to popular belief, not all Muslim women are being oppressed into fully covering their bodies. Instead, a majority of Muslim women around the world have made the decision themselves to wear a head covering or veil. The belief concerning the oppression of Muslim women has resulted from the negative connotation of head coverings associated with Islam. Many people are convinced that Islamic head coverings represent fundamentalist Islam and oppression of Muslim women. This belief is highly misinformed and untrue. Muslim women who choose to veil do so to represent their dedication to their religion. In the past there were many Middle Eastern and African countries that banned different types of headscarves for security reasons or to protect their women.…

When dealing with racial tensions between Americans and Muslims after such a catastrophic event such as September 11th, the outlook on Muslims from an American’s standpoint may forever be tarnished. Much like the way Americans viewed Japanese following the attack on Pearl Harbor, although the Japanese people who we may come in contact with in the U.S. had nothing to do with the attack because they are Japanese, after the attack was not the best of times for them. All over the world following September 11th you would hear reports of violence towards Muslims by American citizens who in their own mind thought they were standing up for their country and in a way “getting back” at the Muslim…
