Specific Purpose Statement: To persuade my audience that texting and driving is the worst form of reckless driving.
Central Idea: Texting and driving is dangerous because it causes accidents and causes deaths.
Introduction
I. Imagine if you will, it is 9am and you are on your way to work.
A. You get a text from a friend at work while you are driving down the road going 45 miles per hour.
B. You begin to text back when you go across the median to oncoming traffic.
C. You get into a head on collision with another oncoming vehicle.
D. You are ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
II. The scene I have just described to you is what happens many times when people text and drive.
III. After researching this topic, I hope to persuade each of you not to text and drive, because of the danger it can cause.
IV. Today I would like to discuss with you why texting and driving is the worst form of reckless driving.
( Transition: Let’s start with the how to kill a driver.)

I. First, how can drivers be killed?.
A. According to the Alcohol Alert.com, in 2011 over 9,000 people were killed by alcohol crashes.
1. According to The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, police report an estimated 100,000 crashes, that result from fatigue each year.
a. There are an estimated 1,500 deaths.
b. There are 71,000 injures that occur.
c. There are over $12 billion dollars in losses.
2. According to Steven Levitt and Jack Porter of the Journal of Political Economy, they have stated that between 1983-1993 drivers with blood-alcohol limit of 0.10 are at least 13 times more likely to be the cause of fatal crashes.
B. Second how can passengers be killed?
1. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2011, over 3,000 people killed involving distracted drivers.
