National Honors Society Character Analysis
The National Honors Society places a strong emphasis on the cornerstone traits of character, leadership, and service within the school and outside of school. I have met, and in some cases exceeded these requirements by being honest, assisting others, and participating in school activities. My character has always been an important concept within my life. This is because character is comprised of honesty, selflessness, and compassion. No matter what the situation is, it has always been imperative to me to be honest with not just those around me, but with myself. For example, I once noticed that an instructor had given me a higher grade than I deserved on a quiz, I never hesitated to report the mistake and made sure that my work was graded

Nichols and May’s skills as storytellers lie in their understanding of human relationships, a mastery that is expressed in the sketch through their delivery of character. The improvisational nature of Nichols and May’s dynamic is apparent in the conversational tone of this sketch. Nichols and May play off each other well and develop the relationship between the mother and son in a short amount of time. The dysfunction of this relationship drives the scene by creating conflict, which the characters exploit to the fullest extent. For instance, the mother in the sketch begins the call normally and proceeds to guilt trip her son with hyperbolized ¬¬reactions. May’s delivery emphasizes the nagging, worrisome traits of the character. The exaggeration of her character’s dysfunction is the focus of humor in the skit. However, once the sketch breaks down to reveal the emotional truth of the characters, the growing distance in the relationship between mother and son, a sense of gravitas hits the audience and asks us to consider our the…

Judith Guest’s Ordinary People conveys the complex emotional and physical hardships that can arise from an unexpected tragedy among a seemingly average family. The development of seventeen-year-old Conrad Jarrett, the book’s protagonist, is dire in determining how his family and friends respond to the death of his brother, Jordan. The evolution of Conrad’s character throughout the novel provides insight on the five stages of grief and the multitude of ways they can be experienced. Though teeming with pivotal moments in Jarrett’s development, one instance in particular, the death of a close friend, Karen Aldrich, is significant in determining his choice to continue to live with grief, or die without exposure to feeling. Karen’s death is indicative of Conrad’s shift towards dependency on others, anticipated…

The four pillars of the National Honor Society; scholarship, leadership, character, and service are the four qualities of a well-rounded individual. They have not only embodied who I strive to be, but have helped me achieve success and impact throughout my local community and my time as a national honor society member. Scholarship has helped me define not only who I am as a student, but has helped me prepare for my future. Without my drive to maintain my academics and pursue knowledge, I would not have discovered my love and passion for teaching. “The hardest obstacle to overcome in any leadership position is getting past the apathy to get people involved in the process to get things done…The greatest enemy to accomplishment is apathy” (Burke). National Honor Society upholds its members to have 4 important values. These being scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Leadership, in my opinion, is a very important aspect in National Honors Society because you are expected to be a role model by positively inspiring people around you. This quote stuck out because it says that inspiring people is a way to overcome obstacles in leadership. When most people think of character they often associate it with the idea of having to do the right thing. I on the other hand believe character is more than just doing what is morally righteous. Our experiences, obstacles and most importantly, passion define our true character. Passion establishes the difference between obligation or choice and giving up or persevering. Our actions result from the passion we choose to dedicate towards different aspects of our lives including school, work, extracurricular activities and community service. Everyone values these aspects differently and that is what allows for each of us to have our own unique character. I believe people have a more powerful influence when they have a true sense of passion for what they are doing.…
