Essay: Identify a biome in which the plants are short and require little water and the animals are small. Then, write a one page description of this biome. A biome is a large ecosystem where plants, animals, insects, and people live in a certain type of climate. Therefore, desert where the plants are short and the animals are small because of a lack of water. There is one-fifth of the earth land’s surface is desert. Deserts can be found on every continent except Europe. The desert biome can be separated into four kinds and they are cold, hot and dry, coastal and semiarid. The cold deserts that are located in Greenland, Antarctic and the Nearctic ecozone. These deserts are characterized by cold winters with snowfall and high overall temperatures throughout the winter, and sometimes in the summer too. In the hot and dry desert, the seasons are generally warm throughout the year and very hot in the summer. But the winters usually bring little rainfall. With the summers are moderately long and dry and the winters are normally have a low concentration of rainfall, which are made up the semiarid desert And the final desert is occurred in moderately cool to warm areas such as the Nearctic and Neotropical realm.
Deserts are also found in areas where rainfall is less than 50 cm a year. However, with a little rainfall, most of the deserts have a considerable amount of specialized vegetation and vertebrate and invertebrate animals as well. And there are only a few large mammals in the deserts because they are not capable of storing sufficient water or withstanding the blistering heat. In the variety of the deserts, plants have had to develop different ways of capturing water in the roots, stems, leaves or fruit in order to survive in their habitat. There are short grasses, sagebrush, creosote bushes and cacti can be found in nearly all deserts. About animals, in order to survive, they try to stay in

In spite of the red-hot weather and the harsh environment, the Sonoran Desert is still featured by its rich biological diversity. It is filled with tremendous life forms including 60 species of mammals, more than 350 kinds of birds, 20 amphibians, around 100 reptiles and over 2000 native species of plants. The Sonoran Desert is recognized as the most diverse desert in North America. The main reason for its biodiversity is the biannual rainy season in the desert. The summer rainy season is also called Monsoon season, which normally starts on July 7 and ends on September 13. The monsoon comes from the Gulf of Mexico and brings storms and heavy wind, which relieve the heat and aridity on May and June. The winter rainfall occurs from December to…

How did the Indian societies of South and North America differ from European societies at the time the two came into contact? In what ways did Indians retain a “world view” different from that of the Europeans? An obvious distinction between the two civilizations is the Indians lacked weapons, tools, or sciences comparable to that of the Europeans. The Native Americans also existed in small, loose groups that lacked unity, while the Europeans were able to establish cities and alliances; another reason the Europeans conquered them easily. The fact that the Indians lived in a primitive agricultural society formed Indian reverence for the land which they believed belonged to all people unlike the Europeans who believed that they had dominion over the land and nature and could transform it at their will. But the Native Americans revered nature and the physical world spiritually and had neither the means nor want to transform the land. Religious views were different among both groups as well. The Indians were polytheists who believed in nature as various sprits who are part of one great deity. The Europeans were monotheist and believed in a simple world dived between good and evil. The Europeans regarded the Indians as savages and thus put full effort in conversions.…

The Grassland (Savanna) is nothing but grass, shrubs and isolated trees. The grasslands can be located between a tropical rain forest and a desert. Unlike the rainforest, the Savanna Grassland happens to not have enough rainfall to support a forest. Savanna’s especially are known to be tropical grasslands and are found on either side of the equator, right on the edges of the more tropical rainforests. Savanna’s are usually warm year round but not desert warm. The two seasons that conflict with each other are long dry, season known as winter and a very wet season, called summer. The only time the grassland is sort of cold or chilly is during…

The Sahara’s climate is heat in the day but incredibly cold at night which puts off many organisms from living in the desert with only a few animals with skin which can reflect the rays and absorb a small amount , have a prolonged water supply to stop dehydration, be able to cope with the heat and the cold with finally being able to find a source of food as plants in desert cannot survive long with cacti being the main plant. Cacti have long roots to find new sources of water with heat from the sunlight not being able to fully evaporate the water content in the cacti with the cacti being able to preserve water for emergency situations. The Sahara’s hot conditions limits the amount of water , food and organisms in the desert as only a few with special adaption such as camels and cacti who have built up and increase their adaptability with the desert’s climate. Subsequently , the desert provides an unstable habitat with the constant need for survival as the Sahara’s heat is all year around with small periods of…
