Have you ever thought of going through a journey with natural hair? Stated in “4 Things I Learned as a Man on a New Natural-Hair Journey”, I acknowledges that Damon Young has constantly learning new techniques since his journey has started (pg3 para.1). Everyone is born with natural hair which means you have no chemicals in your hair that change its texture or pattern. Although if you continuously put chemicals such as perms or relaxers in your hair then it will end your journey of being natural. When returning natural it is important to know the common stages through natural hair journeys, varieties of hair patterns and textures, and what can affect natural hair. Understanding these three things can help you be more capable of having a successful …show more content…

Therefore, having any type of damage or chemicals involved with your hair can lead to stages such as transitioning and a big chop. Although, if you have not encountered such damage then stages such as protective styling, having two diverse textures and identifying hair texture can occur. Natural hair can come across different phases because of the stages that will take place. Many complications come along each stage especially when you’re new to the stage and you have to learn how to adapt. For instance in “Curly Hair Guide: What’s Your Curl Pattern”, it explains that it is possible that your hair won’t turn out like others because you might have a different hair type and this can lead you to the stage of trying to figure out what type hair you have (pg.1 para.1). Varieties of hair patterns and textures start from type 1a-4c. It is very common for people to have more than one hair pattern. Therefore, it is important to be able to identify hair patterns and textures. Found in “How to Determine Hair Type on Natural Hair”, says that that knowing your hair type is useful so you are more aware of how to care for your hair type (pg.1 para.1).
