Natural Hair Speech
My speech was organized. I felt my introduction was short, sweet, and straight to the point. In the beginning I was originally going to engage with my audience by asking, “When you think of natural hair, what is the first thought that comes to your mind?”
Because of the time, I was fearful I’d pass the maximum. Instead, I quoted, “So you’re probably wondering what is a natural?”
My three main points were: 1. the history of Natural hair, 2. when black men and woman began to embrace their natural hair texture publicity, and 3. the modernization of natural hair. My first point was supported by presenting the first natural hair products, and then the relaxer. My next point was supported by discussing the Black Panther Party, which popularized

When introducing myself I informed the class of my name, job title, workplace, the type of students that I teach and what I teach. I do this to give a clear outline of who I am and my job role. During my presentation I tried not to speak too fast, tried to make eye contact with the whole group and ensured that I didn’t remain static.…

African American hair has social and political meaning. The evolution of black hair has so much meaning and power behind it. Hair along with other things gives African Americans an identity. And depending on how you wear, helps you break from the cultural hegemony of white Europeans. In this paper I hope to talk about the “hairstory” of African American hair and what it represented. Talk about those who were very influential to many African American women and men. I also hope to present the different types of hairstyles and how they came about. And the cultural perception of “good hair” versus “bad hair”, and how white supremacy has influenced these two…

Although, some black women alter the texture of their hair it's because of fearfulness of the economic compulsion, and the unknown, it’s due the heavy influence America's Eurocentric society has. But, taking charge and deciding for themselves on what hairstyle fits them best, whether it's cornrows or big afro, black women are resisting against the white beauty standard. Challenging America's image of beauty and black women worth, I've decided to go natural to challenge the view, and I couldn't be more proud. Nowadays, a daily motto I go by is: "Relaxer? If my fro makes you feel uncomfortable then you are the one who needs to relax" –…

According to Ayana D. Byrd and Lori L. Tharps book, Black hair, what motivated African Americans to attempt to straighten their hair stems from their desire to “emulate European standards of beauty, dress, and behavior” (26). This was because their importance were not their education and training, but the way they presented themselves that mattered to society. Due to this, businesses started exploited their eagerness to counter the main stream stigma- even black entrepreneurs. In the early 1900s, two black-owned companies named The Poro and The Madam C.J. Walker company emerged, and both created products designed to treat black women’s damaged, nappy hair. They both even have made major contributions to their African-American community. For…

This short novel accurately portrayals a complete understanding of the hair follicle and hair growth. Written by David A. Whiting, his introduction begins by covering hair embryology and concludes by describing methods of scalp biopsies. The preface of the book mentions how it will provide a “three-dimensional view of the human hair follicle . . . visualizing [it] at different levels and in different phases of the hair cycle demonstrates the correlation between vertical and horizontal sections” (Whiting 6). Sequentially, this is supposed to recognize hair changes and abnormalities. The next section written on human hair follicle anatomy is the center and main idea of the book. Whiting starts this section with the terminal anagen hair, depicting…

To this day, African American culture has grown tremendously and has become more popular among all of the races. Not only has it become popular but it has also stirred up a lot of controversy. One of the aspects of African American culture that has become popular and stirred up a lot of controversy is Black women and their natural hair. Black women are really starting to embrace their natural hair and love the skin they’re in but there are also a lot of people in society tearing them down. A lot of Black women have very curly natural hair and when they don’t feel like managing their hair they wear protective styles like braids or faux locks. Because of these styles, African American women have been denied jobs and opportunities to prosper in…

Many presentations fail in the opening sentences. Take the time to plan your words in the introduction and make it influential. The primary goal of a speech introduction is presenting an idea and your intentions. The purpose of your speech would be better by setting out a few goals before you start writing your speech. The first thirty seconds of your speech are probably the most important. In that period you must grab the attention of the audience, and engage their interest in what you have to say in you speech. Make the audience want you hear the rest of your speech. Retrieved from:…

Your hair says a lot about who you are, whether you want it to or not! We assume things about people based on the way they dress, and that includes hair. I was curious. The first time I considered it was when Chris Rock’s movie, “Good Hair” came out and showed how damaging perms were in your hair. Two of my closest friends and my aunt began their transitioning process. Those two instances, then opened up the conversation about going natural myself. I have a background in science, so I knew the chemical process was not helping my hair to be any healthier. My hair was already healthy, but I knew it could be healthier and the chemicals weren’t good for my body either. I was curious if I would be able to wear my…
