Natural Resources
China seems to fall on to the weak side of the scale for their natural resources and economic base measuring of latitude and panarchy.
Latitude is the degree to which a system can be altered before not having the ability to recover. China’s natural resources and environmental base are very weak in latitude. This conclusion is drawn from the fact that the demand on the limited resources is high due to the high population and low regulation. This is evident in the energy sector, because the increasing demand for energy has put a strain on their supply. Their main source of energy is from coil and this supply is being depleted rapidly and has created massive amounts of pollution. Also the economic base in china is weak in latitude. This can be expanded by the credit markets are very poor. This credit market is run by the government and has seen difficult times in recent years in the real-estate sector. This effect has been amplified by a separation of power and authority between city officials and the central government due to the culture.
Panarchy is the convergence or divergence of a cross-scale effect within the system. China’s natural resources are moderately weak when looking at their panarchy. This is due to their dependence on natural resources, because if there was a large increase in the scarcity of the resources then this would result in a shock. China’s economic base panarchy is very weak this is a result from the lack of rule from the central government. Each city acts separately for the most part creating separate system of rule and economic stand.
