Naturalistic Observation Setting

When a researcher wants to find out what is happening to a group of people they will use a naturalistic observation setting. To observe the behavior of a human the best way is to see how they live in a day to day basis. An example of naturalistic observation is observing eating habits of opposite sexes in a fast food place. An advantage of doing research in naturalistic setting is that participants are carefully observed in their natural setting without interference by the researchers. In order take data from observation one should use a phone, tablet computer, or an iPad to log all the data found. An observer effect is when the observer has to be hidden from the view of the participants. One might wonder why researchers want to do one-way
mirror research. A disadvantage is observation bias when observers see what they expect to see. In order to avoid this one can use blind observers, this is people who has no idea what in the research they should actually see, and what the research question is. Naturalistic observation is good if the observer wants the participants to react normally, but the only problem is that this is time consumuning. There is also no control on what will happen in the environment and it is unpredictable to know if the observer will be completely unbiased.
