In the novel, the plane has crashed into a mysterious island with the boys realizing there’s no adult supervision and must figure out a way to take care of themselves in the meanwhile. According to Lord of the Flies where you can state one character represented civilization and the other one savageness. Everyone has different ideas on surviving, especially when there isn’t much supplies or support leaders tend to go their own way without needing anyone else. Being an individual means being a person who can take charge of themselves, even if the nature of society is different than normal because depending the area it will change certain behavior of one. Others would say something different about the ethical nature of the individual, such as the environment cannot change anything about a person. Towards the beginning, Ralph and Jack could not get anything done because Ralph wanted to do things more civilized such as making a shelter and signaling for help but Jack didn’t focus on anything other than hunting for meat. Not everyone would react the same adjusting to new background others would stay standard. At first, in Lord of the Flies everyone was still proper, courteous and obeyed the civil laws as they remembered but afterward things started to fall apart.
