Executive Summary XUMUC is a company created to satisfy the needs of consumers all around the United States. The needs of consumers were growing at an alarming rate, as a result causing XUMUC to merger with another company. Originally, XUMUC was only in one region of the United States San Francisco, but recently they added 2 other regions in Houston and Denver. During the merger of all this regions, a consultant was brought in to handle the Wide Area Network (WAN) links of the various regions. Unfortunately, the consultant did a poor job with the integration resulting in a poor IP address scheme as a result routing tables at the summarization points and at the San Francisco Campus was very large. In addition, no VLAN structure was developed to isolate broadcast traffic. Also, there has been some concern that the WAN transport was not able to accommodate the network traffic. Finally, all addresses in the network was statically assigned resulting in high administration overhead when changes are needed XUMUC would like this changed to lower administrative overhead. As a result, I was brought in to resolve the problems the previous consultant had caused.

Notwithstanding, as a solution to the problems caused by the previous consultant, I must first understand what they did wrong. According to XUMUC, the previous consultant did a poor job with the integration resulting in a poor IP address scheme. Next, the routing tables at the summarization points and at the San Francisco Campus were very large. Third issue, no VLAN structure was developed to isolate broadcast traffic. Then, they were concerns that the WAN transport was not able to accommodate the network traffic. Final issue, all the addresses in the network were statically assigned resulting in high administration overhead. With that in mind, I will start off by addressing the poor IP address

Due to the vast size of the project, Shenzhen Telecom had to involve 10 different departments within the company and required the participation of numerous related units of design, construction and supervision, which necessitated immense organization and management. These units would have to oversee the laying of more than 426 new routes of optical fibers to create the network for the Nanshan District, and the project execution required difficult coordination and mandatory approvals that threatened the project’s predetermined timeline and schedule.
