Nearpod Reflection
This year I am new to teaching 7th grade mathematics at my school. I am often found searching the internet and speaking to other teachers on what are they doing in their classroom to keep a view of their understanding of what their students understand from their teaching. An ELL teacher and I have struck up an friendship between each other and have started some routines that benefit our students. With the use of technology I am able to use a website called Nearpod. It is an interactive presentation and assessment tool that I have been using to pre assess what my students know though quizzes, polls, images, and drawing boards. It has taken my students active participation to a new level for my teaching. In addition to Nearpod, the

This Spring 2017 semester, I get to do student teaching at Jack and Sharon Rhoads Elementary. Rhoads is a public elementary school in Kay, TX, in the Katy Independent School District. There are 1,128 students enrolled in grades PK to 5th. It is the 43rd largest public school in Texas. In 1st grade, there are about 150 students. The 1st grade classroom that I am observing has an average of 20 students and is very diverse because it supports a large variety group of children. There are students that are learning in different ways such as at an advanced level, an average level, and some that would need in-class support.…

The Office of Instructional Development (UCLA) claims a key to successful use of technology is identifying course learning objectives and seeking technologies that can help support those objectives. By focusing on the content instead of the technology, instructors can find success with a minimal investment in utilizing common technologies. Because I am all the time surrounded by children, I can assist the children and understand their learning needs.(K.U 1.1) My prior job inside the classroom is to listen to the children, respect and value them. Even though I haven 't been working for too long with them, the pupils in my classroom already gained respect and confidence in me, and I can see how slowly, with my help and of course, the teacher 's , they are gaining the sense of independence, which is extremely important for a child developing. I 'm helping by ensuring they have access to the curriculum at all the times, and by using plenty of praise and rewards. I make sure that all the children participate fully in every lesson, by reminding them of teaching points made by teacher and help them organise and participate in appropriate…

Mastering these fundamental rules creates a sound framework that will help support intrinsic learning and appreciation for all kinds of students. Another teacher teaches by working problems out and showing students examples, then makes them work the problem while she works it on the board. This is helpful in classes like math and physics. She does well in teaching the information, and making sure everyone understands. Telling students how to do a problem step-by- step helps them have a clear concise understanding of the steps to complete when working the problems or equations. This attempt is helping students who learn by watching something be done or listening to how to do something all at once. Once she feels they understand she makes…

Since children learn differently than adults do, and do not have prior knowledge to draw meaning from, an important characteristic of a professional math teacher is to have the ability to create a classroom environment where students are encouraged to take risks and explore problems while learning problem solving strategies. According to the class textbook, A Problem Solving Approach to Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers, “If problems are approached in only one way, a mind-set may be formed.” (Billstein, R., Libeskind, S., & Lott, J., 2010) Teachers need to give students a tool box of strategies, such as, look for a pattern, examine a related problem, identify a subgoal, make a diagram, or work backwards.…

A major component of my philosophy of education in general is the need to build meaningful relationships with students. I am firm in my beliefs that students must feel a personal connection to their teachers. When mutual trust and respect between students and teachers flourishes, two important phenomena occur. First, teachers are able to allow students more freedom and independence in the learning process, without worrying that classroom management will be compromised by a particular activity. In addition, students develop a positive attitude toward the class, and feel assured that the learning that takes place on a daily basis will be understandable, fun and…
