We are constantly served with environmental issues every day. Mother Nature has become a significant issue to business organizations owing to the globalization and localization of environmental problems. Multiple business operations are responsible for most of these problems. Hence, the need for green supply chain management arises. Basically, this type of supply chain management addresses the impact of the supply chain processes of a particular organization on the environment. Green supply chain management has been defined in a lot of ways but the simplest and most prominent one among all would be to define it as “the usage of environmentally inputs and transforming these friendly inputs besides converting these inputs into outputs which can be recycled at the end of their lifestyle thus, maintaining a healthy supply chain”.
The drastic growth in business organizations has contributed to an increase in the manufacturing and usage of a variety of goods. As such, the damage done to the society and environment is too intense. Hence, it is important for organizations to practice the green supply chain management because of the limited resources and the pressure of green barriers. This management enables higher efficiency and synergy among business partners and their lead corporations. Green supply chain management improves performance in the environment by minimizing waster and reducing the stress on environment. Moreover, it also bring forward the image of a company upholding a brand to a higher level. By implementing this type of management, there will be less rejection for suppliers and production is easier for manufacturers. Besides, through this management, costs such as cost prices for supplier, cost for producers and cost of ownership for customers can be lowered effectively. Apart from reducing costs, it is also the key to achieve corporate profit and market share objectives.
