It was in 1464 AD, that Raja Rajdeo Singh, a resident of Rai Pithaura (capital of Prithviraj Chauhan III and the Chauhan dynasty who ruled from Ajmer and Delhi till 1192 AD), laid the foundation stone of this fort palace. He named it Neemrana after a local brave chieftain Nimola Meo.When the owners found the fort in 1980 it was completely in ruins and even the boundary couldn’t be recognized, but after 15 years of restoration the fort stands out amongst the mountains in its full glory attracting the tourists and visitors. The original architecture was designed by M. Marcel; a French artist called in by the Maharaja and assisted by a local builder by the name of Allah Ditta. The construction of the palace started in the 1900 and was completed in time by 1908 for the new wife of Maharaja Jagatjit Singh, Anita Delgado. The Jagatjit Palace features a magnificent Durbar Hall, also called the Diwan-E-Khaas The most interesting feature of Jagatjit Palace is the Plaster of Paris figurines and painted ceilings that represent the French taste of art and architecture. The Lapis lazuli pillars that one sees in the Jagatjit Palace had been imported from Italy and the same goes for the marbles that are seen in the fireplace. There is a central watch tower surrounded by radial cell blocks, like spokes of wheel. The watch tower is appears to be slightly tilted. And a lot more modern facilities have been added. The park area can be broadly classified into General, Museum and Exhibition, Contemporary Art, Retail, Performance spaces and Water features. Freedom park is a unique park that pays tribute to the freedom fighters. Fig.28, Fig.29: show different parts of the renovated jail, Fig.30: the painted facade to give the jail a vibrant feel.
The outer wall has been painted colorfully, lawns, gardens and fountains prompt the visitors to take a pleasant walk along the barracks. The park has all the basic amenities for public like, Children’s play area, Cafeteria, Toilets, Parking lots, Retail shops etc.
