The Effects of ADHD in Children Having a child diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, I have witnessed first-hand the effects it has on a child’s life. Though many teachers discount the validity of ADHD, this disorder, if left untreated, affects a child’s daily life, causing them to experience forgetfulness, short attention spans, insecurities, and frustration. Fortunately, there are many treatments available to help treat the disorder, so that children who are diagnosed and experience these effects can lead very successful lives.

Despite many teacher’s opinions on the disorder, it does have many effects in children. Thankfully, medication and/or therapy can treat and help children diagnosed to be academically successful. I have seen my own son go from a struggling student to excelling in advanced placement classes. He is also making all As with no behavior issues with the help of doctors, medication, and a few amazing teachers. While there have been a few teachers along the way who have actually caused the effects of the disability to be even worse, there have also been a few amazing teachers that have impacted his life greatly. Ironically, one of those amazing teachers has a child diagnosed with ADHD, while the teachers who disregarded my son’s disorder and lacked understanding and patience for him, had no education or experience with attention deficit disorders. Fortunately, there are many options available for treatment which have helped my son to succeed and excel academically.
