Conflict can occur in many situations in the workplace such as, when there is an organisational change or, when people’s personalities clash. When there is a personality conflict between colleagues these issues should be looked at from the other person’s point of view to try and understand them and determine what may cause someone to act this way; you can also look at how others interact with them to gain knowledge and understanding of others, most importantly the conflict should be resolved quickly before it becomes out of control. When two people clash due to issues it is usually easier to handle as the situation can be looked at logically with compromise…
There was constructive conflict in the scenario. Constructive conflict occurs when the group or team expresses disagreements in ways that value everyone’s contributions and promote the group’s goals. (Engleberg, Wynn, 2012) The key factor is when the team did not agree with Betty’s idea of a bake sale. After not agreeing with the bake sale, the team discussed why the bake sale was not a good idea, then discussed another option for the funding. One conflict style that I saw was collaboration, and compromise.…
The Chattanooga Ice Cream case shows a decline in sales for 5 consecutive years. The Division is headed by Charles Moore. Although Charles Moore was successful in leading teams he seemed to have major issues with this team of vice presidents. According to the Harvard Business Review Chattanooga Ice Cream Case the team was very dysfunctional; they exhibited a lack of trust, high in conflict, disrespectful of each other and exhibited avoidance issues with accountability. Team members seemed to always lay blame to other member. Moore needs to be more assertive in dismissing the ways of the past and the loss of Stay & Shop business needs to be put aside. Moore needs to give clear direction and assign responsibilities to each team member. Moore needs to convey that team cohesiveness is a must and this will go a long way to help ensure no further loss of business. This paper will examine how Moore’s leadership approach contributed to the teams’ dysfunction, discuss what the group of employees themselves could do to better understand the perspectives of each other and their boss as well as make recommendations about Moore should do now to help his team work together and manage conflicts more effectively.…

1 Wife of Bath sees marriage as a means for her to have sex and she has a strong sexual appetite. She feels that God gave women sexual desires and that it can't be wrong to give in to those desires because they are God-given. Furthermore, she says that she knows men also have strong sexual desires so she uses sex, or the lack of it, to control her husbands The Wife of Bath begins the Prologue to her tale by establishing herself as an authority on marriage, due to her extensive personal experience with the institution. Since her first marriage at the tender age of twelve, she has had five husbands. She says that many people have criticized her for her numerous marriages, most of them on the basis that Christ went only once to a wedding, at Cana in Galilee. The Wife of Bath has her own views of Scripture and God’s plan. She says that men can only guess and interpret what Jesus meant when he told a Samaritan woman that her fifth husband was not her husband. With or without this bit of Scripture, no man has ever been able to give her an exact reply when she asks to know how many husbands a woman may have in her lifetime. God bade us to wax fruitful and multiply, she says, and that is the text that she wholeheartedly endorses. After all, great Old Testament figures, like Abraham, Jacob, and Solomon, enjoyed multiple wives at once. She uses this power as an “instrument” to control her husbands.…

Two or more persons who disagree relate to conflict. For example, one individual of a team wish to lead the team because of prior leadership. The other candidate also wishes to lead the team because of favoritism. This is one prime example of conflict. Another involvement of conflict consists of a clash between an individual work schedule and the hours the employer expects from the employee. Last, conflict deals with struggle. For example, two criminals committing a crime one is more violent than the other. Both have strong intentions to commit the crime, however, only one want to commit murder. The other criminal struggles to proceed as scheduled because murdering goes against the plan. Conflict is a word that causes most people a degree of discomfort, anger, frustration, sadness, and pain (Team Building Inc, 2010).…

Conflict occurs when two or more people who, despite their first attempts at agreement, do not yet have an agreement or a course of action, usually because their values, perspectives and opinions are contradictory in nature. The credit and accounting departments are interdependent and share a common goal in the company but conflict arose because of the increase in sales caused the credit and accounting offices to become busier and this has caused conflict between Linda Sims, the accounting department manager and Jose Martinez, the manager of the sales department. Another issue that was causing conflict was whose department workload was more important and limited personnel resources in both the accounting and credit departments. Due to the increase of workload Ruth the administrative assistant for the credit department, is no longer available to make journal entries for the accounting department. When Sims approached Martinez to complain that she needed Ruth more he became defensive because Ruth was his employee who was doing Sims a favor by making the journal entries. Sims first initial conflict strategy was to force Martinez to turn over the services of his employee. He became defensive because he viewed Sims as controlling and trying to coerce him to turn over his employee to make journal entries for Martinez and that caused Sims to become resentful. If Sims would have attained the additional services of Ruth it would have become a win-lose situation for Martinez.…
In the realm of argumentation and debate many debaters negotiate their point of views in front of people all the time. Debates are basically distributive bargaining situations where debaters utilize selective presentation to try and win their arguments. This paper will define what a distributive bargaining situation is and secondly, this written discourse will define the technique of selective presentation. Furthermore, this paper will also discuss the definition of power, and the role power plays in negotiation. To elaborate on distributive bargaining situations and the use of selective presentation, I will use two arguments from a debate between James Carville, Jr., a liberal political commentator and professor at Tulane University, and S.E. Cupp, a republican political commentator, writer, and Ivey League socialite. The arguments originally specified by the republican commentator S.E. Cupp, stated “President Obama did not received the same microscope treatment that President Bush received from the media, congress, and the Senate;” and “raising taxes will not create more jobs, cutting taxes will create more jobs because businesses are job creators.” These two arguments will be used to show how selective presentation is applied in intellectual distributive bargaining situations.…
As nurses, it is imperative that we have skills to deal with conflict we encounter throughout the day. Some conflicts are easily handled with simple solutions; other disagreements can persist for weeks or even months and never be handled in a proper way to resolve the situation. The later kind of situation can create resentment, anger, and animosity between employees or colleagues. In this paper I will describe a conflict situation with resolution strategies used by the confronter, discuss other ways to resolve the conflict, and discuss the conflict theory most beneficial to use with a diverse group of people.…
Professional: Confrontations are always bound to happen in the work place.
