Work Place Conflict Negotiation The only workplace conflict I can think of to write about is when I worked for a company called WorldPages. The conflict was between me and a coworker, Sue. Sue had a habit of coming to work late or with a hang-over and not doing her share of the work. We built the information pages in the phone books called the “talking pages.” If the project was a small book it was not a problem, one person could manage doing that without any help within the time limit. The larger books usually required two people to get it put together and approved by the customer by the deadline. Another issue in this conflict is that Sue did not want to take her turn covering the phones at the front desk when the receptionist was absent or on a break. I usually got stuck doing it, which meant my own work had to be put on hold. The main issues in this problem are one employee not doing her share of work, an employee coming to work consistently late usually with a hangover. The same employee is taking advantage of her co-worker and supervisor. The issue from the companies view would be employee performance and attendance. There are several sources of conflict. One conflict is that Sue was not helping with her part of the work load. The second conflict is Sue coming to work late and not getting in trouble. Other employees saw this happening, and thought it was unfair that they would get wrote up for being late. No one else was allowed to get by with the same things Sue did. Sue did not get in trouble because she was friends with our direct supervisor. The third conflict is the hard feelings this caused between Sue, me, and other coworkers. The fourth conflict was about when Sue would not take her turn covering the front desk. This affected not only me, but others that also had to take turns doing it. My interest in the conflict was the fact that I was expected to get the work done whether Sue helped or not. Another interest I had in the conflict was the

    Conflict occurs when two or more people who, despite their first attempts at agreement, do not yet have an agreement or a course of action, usually because their values, perspectives and opinions are contradictory in nature.     In the realm of argumentation and debate many debaters negotiate their point of views in front of people all the time. Debates are basically distributive bargaining situations where debaters utilize selective presentation to try and win their arguments. This paper will define what a distributive bargaining situation is and secondly, this written discourse will define the technique of selective presentation.
