Negotiations and Profit
Journal Entry 6-1-12

I learned that its not always about immediate profit. The purpose of business is to prolong your business while making a solid profit each year. If you make 100,000 dollars for 3 years that does not exceed what your profits would be if you made 75,000 dollars a year for 25 years. The peace of mind alone knowing you have a trust worthy business partner as well as a set in stone job/business for your lifetime and retirement is often a lot more rewarding than a quick buck. I have been taught by my father as well as several other mentor's that a quick buck never takes your as far as you want to go.

The G Tech taught me that you must do research in order to know your counter parts BATNA so that you and obtain some form of leverage. This gives you an advantage in the negotiation process. For example I did not know that the SELLER I was buying from deal had fallen threw. If I would of known all the information I would have been able to get a better deal. In the real world scenario like our class activity I would have done research and hopefully found the information somewhere that showed me that G tech was actually unable to come to a deal with the Swiss company. This would have given me the leverage and allowed me to reach my optimum price. I needed to perform a RIP to get the best

Negotiation is a process by which two or more parties, each with its own goals and perspective, coordinate areas of interest through concession and comprise to reach an agreement and take joint decisions about areas of common concern in a situation in which neither side has nor wants to use complete power. “we know that lawyers and car salespeople spend lots of time negotiating, but so do managers. Managers have to negotiate salaries for incoming employees, cut deals with superiors, bargain over budget, work out differences with associates, and resolve conflicts with subordinates. Negotiating is something that every one engages in almost every day and most of the time without even realizing it. . Negotiation occurs when two or more conflicting parties attempt to resolve their divergent goals by redefining the terms of their interdependence (Pruit and Carnevale 1993)…

Every negotiation starts with a process followed by a strategy because without either, then it would be just a disagreement with any kind of resolution to the issue. Making sure that you get what you set out for is important but does not necessarily mean that the other person has to lose in the negotiation so making sure to go through the process and then coming up with a strategy ensures that all parties come out with a win-win rather than a win-lose negotiation.…

In the realm of argumentation and debate many debaters negotiate their point of views in front of people all the time. Debates are basically distributive bargaining situations where debaters utilize selective presentation to try and win their arguments. This paper will define what a distributive bargaining situation is and secondly, this written discourse will define the technique of selective presentation. Furthermore, this paper will also discuss the definition of power, and the role power plays in negotiation. To elaborate on distributive bargaining situations and the use of selective presentation, I will use two arguments from a debate between James Carville, Jr., a liberal political commentator and professor at Tulane University, and S.E. Cupp, a republican political commentator, writer, and Ivey League socialite. The arguments originally specified by the republican commentator S.E. Cupp, stated “President Obama did not received the same microscope treatment that President Bush received from the media, congress, and the Senate;” and “raising taxes will not create more jobs, cutting taxes will create more jobs because businesses are job creators.” These two arguments will be used to show how selective presentation is applied in intellectual distributive bargaining situations.…

In 5th grade, I started my own little business. I would go to school and sell Mardi Gras beads I got from my family. I sold the beads for twenty-five cents to my peers and teachers and fifty cents to strangers. I only sold for a week, but that week I would go home with between five to seven dollars each day. I did not have a reason for wanting to sell the beads, in particular, I just wanted to make money and save all the money I earned. That same "want" has driven me throughout my life. In middle school, my dad and uncle started a business running a food truck. Because I was too young and was in school, I only worked with them during the summer. There I learned how to handle money, provide great customer service, and how to market and advertise.…

It is a real experience that I had in my father’s company. This spring, our company planned to add one floor on the top-storey of their 3-floor office building. Before construction, our Company needed to obtain an inn owner’s permission, as the addition floor will block light shining into some rooms of his inn-- AB Inn, which locates in the other building next to our office building. Therefore, our company had to negotiate with AB Inn regarding the permission and compensation issue. I was not been assigned any works in the process because of my poor experience, but I took part in the negotiation as a minute-taker, witnessing all the details. It is obvious that the AB Inn owner did not permit us adding a floor at the beginning. The owner stated that he would not approve it unless our company could provide compensation to him. Our company agreed to solve this problem by giving him a sum of compensation. But we need to negotiate on the issue that how much our company should give the inn owner, because there is no explicit policy or rules on sunshine blockage issue should be carried out but just a convention based on several cases which only adapt to residential use.…
