Nehemah 2: 11-18 Analysis
I look at Nehemiah 2:11-18 a model of true repentance. As Nehemiah went back to examine the fruit of the people’s sin- the destruction of their beloved city- I see him deeply examine it before he tries to rebuild it. When we repent, we can’t just give an insincere apology, or an half hearted turn of the heart. Before anyone can see that they need salvation, or see that they need forgiveness again(for us that are already saved), we have to truly look into our heart, look into our actions and see how vile and wrong we are for our sins. He stayed there for 3 days( the complete number). He sat out at night with a select few, but what he was there for was personal between him and God. When we sincerely repent, we should be secluded alone with God. Jesus expressed twice in the sermon on the mount about doing things in secret so that only God would be who we were trying to receive from. …show more content…
I said out loud, “I don’t even know what repentance is.” The next day during morning service, the first words out of the pastor’s mouth after reading the scripture were “ Repentance is having the heart to want to change.” Nehemiah had that heart. His heart was hurt over what had happened to this once great city. This is the heart I must have toward my

1 Samuel 31, 2 Samuel 1-10 – First Samuel ends with Saul’s death. Rather than facing the torment of the Philistines, he falls on his own sword, but the first chapter of 2 Samuel gives a different account. An Amalekite reports to David that he killed Saul after Saul asked him to run him through with the sword. Either way, Saul is now dead, and David is made king of Judah, while Ishbaal (Saul’s son) supposedly reigns over the rest of Israel. Abner supports Ishbaal at first, but after having been accused of sleeping with one of Saul’s concubines, Abner turns to support David. Before he can do anything to help David’s conquest, Abner is killed by Joab (commander of David’s forces) for killing Joab’s brother Asahel. Ishbaal is also assassinated by Rechab and Baanah, who are apparently motivated by the thought of reward from David for their service, but they are killed by David as a result. With no other leader to turn to, the rest of Israel accepts David as their king at Hebron. After that, David enjoys much military success against the enemies of Israel (Philistines, Moabites, Edomites,…

The book of Psalms is a clear acceptance of wisdom and poetry unto God, the Creator of heavens and earth. David, his Sons, and others expressly write their human’s emotions in prayers and hymns to convey a message from their hearts in many ways. The book of Psalms is also equivalent to the New Testament as well, the Old Testament , example, Psalm 22:1 where David cries in agony, just as Jesus Christ did in the Gospel of Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34 collectively describing in Scriptures a separation from God. Nevertheless, God is only prayer away in every…

The Sermon in the Mount delivered by Jesus defines the important values of Religion. As the founder of Christian religion, Jesus, in his sermon, presented the evidences of ethics behavior of Christians, which are forgiveness, humility, Justice, love and perseverance. Agreeing to Jesus’ sermon, forgiveness must characterize Christians. In fact, Christian must forgive at the level of accepting a recidivist behavior. According to Jesus “If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also”. In addition humility is a requirement of Christians. Christians prove their humility by asking forgiveness even if they did not offense someone. As Jesus declared, if “your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front…

Paul delivered these instructions to help actively restore Christians that were sinning. Paul emphasized the need for tenderness in the restorative process to fulfill the law of Christ. Individuals are addressed with stern warnings and blessings if they are followers of the Holy Spirit. “Make no mistake: God is not mocked, for a person will reap only what he sows, because the one who sows for his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows for the holy spirit will reap eternal life from the spirit.”…

When God changes our hearts through the new birth, He gives us new desires for holiness and a hatred toward sin. These emotional qualities (and many others) will increase over time. But a distinguishing mark of a true Christian is that he mourns over sin, both his own sins and the sins of others.” Both Ezra and Nehemiah are examples of what holy affection, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit and awareness of the actions God wants us to take when we faced with sin, be it our own or the sins of others. While it may be automatic to judge, we must be mindful that by the same measure we judge others we shall be judged and the truly righteous thing to do is to help others through correction which brings repentance and ultimately reconciliation to…

In a previous writing we looked at what it means to repent. Repentance was one of Jesus' chief messages spanning his entire ministry. Repentance was also an integral part of John's and the Church's message to the world. But what can we learn from Jesus about repentance by his teaching of the parable of the unjust steward, Luke 16:1-13?…

Forgiveness Psalm 130 says that there is forgiveness with God. It also says that this is because God should be feared. Nehemiah not only was scanning his environment for potential issues, but also was praying about the issues as he heard of them. As soon as he heard of the problem in Jerusalem he took his request for mercy to God in a prayer of repentance (Neh. 1:4-11). Philippians 4:6 says, “by prayer and supplication… let your requests be made known unto God.” It is important that godly leaders take issues to God to discern His will and to be “transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what…

The old phrase “Keeping up with the Jones's,” comes to mind. We transfer this same mentality towards God, who keeps records so we have to try harder to please him. Confession releases us from this stronghold and allows us the freedom to draw close to a loving and forgiving God. On pages 72 and 73, Linn printed a model prayer of confession to “put a father in touch with the Lord’s healing forgiveness.” (p. 72) There are three parts to it, which Linn will discuss. He states that healing of memories and confession share these same steps as written about in previous chapters. (1) Thanking God – this is seen throughout the Bible. We see growth after each time we confess as God continually heals us. (2) Confessing what Christ wants healed. Unless it is a mortal sin, pick one from the list and focus on it for repentance. The author makes an important point, “Superficial healing follows contrition superficially focused on how our sin hurt us but ignoring how it hurt Christ in others.” (p. 75) Self focused is the same as self-centeredness, which is the same as pride, because we have no regard for the damaged or hurt emotions we have inflicted on…

” To err is human” it’s only human to make mistakes. As humans, we think we forgive but usually we can’t forget easily, which is a larger part of forgiveness. And” to forgive is divine” means that it’s very difficult for a human to forgive. Man should always be forgiving as it is human nature to commit mistakes. Adam and Eve, who disobeyed God by plucking the forbid¬den fruit, were our forefathers. They were shunted out from the Garden of Eden by God when he came to know about it. Sometimes in his anger man loses his senses and commits mistakes. But once he has done the mistake it is done. That is unalterable. The only remedy to correct the mistake is acknowledgement and realization. Since all of us are sinners at one time or the other, it will be desirable that we should forgive our enemies because forgiveness is a gift given by the God. Jesus Christ, even on the cross, during his last moments, was able to say this about the people who had put him to death: “Father, forgive them for they know not what they are doing.”…
