COMMUNITY AND PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUES 2
Community and Public Health Issues within the Neighborhood Community health is a field within public health focusing on the concerns of particular geographic areas rather than related characteristics. Interventions are designed to aid in the improvement of the community’s health. Communication is essential when dealing with community health issues (“Dictionary.com”, 2012). Public health is the act of protecting and improving the mental, physical, and well-being of a community. Preventative medicine, education, assessment, and management is used to protect and improve the health of the community. Public health departments show their concern in areas, such as water supplies, air pollution, food safety, and waste disposals (Mosby, 2009).
Confirmation of Polluted Water Supply The article, Officials confirm pollution worries, states that the local Neighborhood Lake’s have reached critical pollution levels. These levels were addressed at the City Council meeting. Local environmental activists have been warning the community of the high levels of pollution in the Neighborhood Lake’s. Concern is directed toward the town’s water supply. These Lake’s were once an attraction for fishing but with the dangerous levels of pollution the community’s health and well-being are at risk (University of Phoenix, n.d.).
